mike tobin in southern israel. let's start at the pentagon with jennifer griffin to kick off your morning today. what do we know? >> after more than 41 attacks on u.s. bases and the downing of a u.s. drone over the red sea yesterday off the coast of yemen the u.s. military finally struck. this time a pair of american f-15 fighter jets bombed a weapons storage facility in eastern syria where iran's islamic revolutionary guard corps stores weapons used to target u.s. troops and bases. according to a military official what we blew up inside were bad things. it could have been rockets, drones, could have been artillery shells. certainly whatever it was is being used against our forces. u.s. officials may not rule out there may have been iranians at the facility and some may have been killed. a slightest calation. iran and its proxies did not stop attacks after the u.s. carried out a pair of air strikes in syria october 26th. defense officials said they ramped up the defense of the bases sending patriot missiles and oth

let's get the latest from southern israel from mike tobin and more. mike? with israel claiming another high value target. mohammed assah is his name. he's set to manage the anti-tank fire in the gaza strip. another high value target that israel has claimed with the sixth night of fighting. a he lot of attention is on the rafah crossing in egypt where the gates opened today. hundreds of foreign passport holders made their escape in to egypt. ambulances came up to take out 86 wounded people, but we understand that some of the people were in such bad shape that they didn't make it out of the gaza strip. not many americans made it out today. we understand five aid workers made it out and a group and americans piled to the southern end and hoping to get out. the gates are expected to open today. they have nothing to do other than be hopeful that they'll make their escape tomorrow. following the massive strike at the refugee camp that left a giant crater. the crater was caused by ham tunnels. hamas claimed the hostages were killed in the air strike. israel dismis

mike tobin, do you expect or is it expected by the israeli government that any time there's one of theseses, hamas will take advantage of it? >> it's certainly a risk and we have seen that through the humanitarian corridors that open every day. let me start with talking about a development in israel, another two hostages have appeared on video making statements denouncing the actions of their government. idf calls it psychological terrorism of the worst kind. it comes with the promise for their release. these two individuals are held by islamic jihad, not by hamas, and a number of conditions have to be met for their release so they are not out yet and the situation is fluid. as it relates to the operational pauses in the warfare, and the exodus of palestinians, that is happening and is happening to the tune of tens of thousands. some 50,000 palestinians made the march south yesterday as the road was open as evacuation corridor for four hours. that's a main road from the north to the south, and now they are marching south with a promise of that pause backed by the u.s. government. >> we u

mike tobin from southern israel. i want to tell you first that the evacuation of northern gaza has really picked up with intensity and with numbers. we see the palestinians coming out waving white flags pushing people on wheelchairs and carts and carrying whatever they can. to give you own idea how it picked up on sunday 2,000 people went on the evacuation corridor. monday 5,000, yesterday 15,000. the corridor was open again today. we don't know how many people are left. the problem they have is once they get south of the evacuation line, the refugee camps are overwhelmed at this point. no place for people to stay. meantime the israeli ground forces are picking up intensity in the northern half of the gaza strip. israel says they have another high value target. a guy who was integral in developing weapons. they took out an anti-tank cell and a cell that fired rockets into israel. israel's military leaders say they are operating in the heart of gaza city and tightening the noose. prime minister benjamin netanyahu is ge

rachel: mike tobin live on the ground in southern israel with the latest. what are you hearing? go ahead. i was just going to say. >> reporter: i was going to say. got the delay we are competing with. as far as what i'm hearing, evacuation corridor has been opened up for an hour and will be open another two hours, not necessarily going that smoothly. the seeds of devastation in the northern end of the gaza strip with the refugee camp, the combat on the ground, the threat to life in the northern end of the gaza strip. there are two main roads. in the middle of the gaza strip, there's the beach road to the western side of the gaza strip that moves along the beach. most people prefer the beach road, easier traveling. the people there could see the beach road and there was a strike on the beach road so what i hear from gaza contacts, they saw the strike, they are not moving south. if they do move south, they were north of the evacuation line. if they move south there have been strikes, israeli forces operating south of the evacuation line. here's a spokesman for the idf. >> many ham

an update from mike tobin live in israel. good morning to you, mike. >> good morning, dana. we had another rocket barrage come out of gaza strip headed in ashkelon five minutes ago. this as israel says they're closing in on gaza city and hamas in gaza city for the first time mentioning the navy is closing in from the mediterranean sea. aerial bombardment has been a lot. they're at the edge of the neighborhoods around gaza city hitting command and control structures. we caught up with emily, an american woman who stopped in to see the in laws in the gaza strip before october 7th and got trapped. they survived what was left over in the cupboards and made the exit out of the rafah crossing into egypt. >> the night before we left, i couldn't sleep at all listening to the bombing in the distance and counting. i counted within one minute between 14 and 17 booms. it was every 4 to 10 seconds. i just couldn't get over how many i was hearing and i was trying to make sense of it all. >> our cameras captured some of the rocket fire making its way all the way up to tel aviv last night.

mike tobin joins us with the very latest. mike? report report to quote the u.s. president nothing is done until it is done but you have all parties hamas and israel included expressing optimism a deal for substantial release of hostages is in the final day of becoming reality. israel's war cabinet and government approve the deal with objection and majority support. what we know about the deal is three for one deal, 50 hostages women and children, will be released in exchange, 150 palestinians women, teenagers will be released from israeli jails. this comes with a five day pause in the fighting. israeli channels said prime minister netanyahu will also involve red cross officials seeing the remaining hostages. >> translator: we'll do everything, everything to bring them home as soon as possible. we are reaching a great deal of goals and we have to continue doing so until we reach the goal which is of course among other things bringing our people home. >> reporter: until the deal goes into effect the fighting continues to rage in the north of the gaza strip. israel

mike tobin meanwhile has been hearing this and watching this unfolding and joins us right now from israelh the latest. mike. >> and neil, as the sun went down we saw the activity pick up out here. we saw a lone rocket come out of the gaza strip and it was going in the direction we usually don't see. shortly after this rocket launched, we started getting alerts that the town of lot was the target the far southern end of israel, usually not the target from gaza rockets. it's been a target from some of the rockets from yemen that came up the red sea. that was unique. israeli aircraft are firing in the northeast corner. gaza strip where a fight has been going on about three days, and that's the fringes of where the fighting has been taking place. the really intense fighting in the center of gaza city where israelis say they have the population center is your rounded, if you will, and a report coming out of hamas claiming to have damaged a couple of israeli armored vehicles, very deep in the population center of gaza city. that would indicate whether that claimed vets out or not, that's the ar
