and mike viqueira is at the white house with more. >> john the next couple of days here we expect toe key questions answered as the president and the central command announcing that the first air strikes actually have taken place, and it's interesting on the eve of this debate and as the air campaign gets started, public support for what the president is doing is remarkably strong and growing. and this is 180 degree reversal from where it was last time. 60% of democrats support what the president is try doing. 66 republicans -- 66% of republicans say the plan doesn't go far enough, while 54% of democrats worry that the plan will go too far. but only 18% think it will decrease the chance of an attack on this country. 34% say it will actually increase the chances, john. what we are waiting to find out is what kind of fruit is this going to bare. they haven't named the members of the coalition. also there is the question of arming the so-called moderate vetted opposition in syria. >> so there is not really going to be a vote before the midterms or is there? >> there will be a vote on au

mike viqueira is at the white house. you just heard what josh had to say about this. it's unclear. what does politically how do you get tougher? >> it's unclear when it comes it syria. they're still formulating the policy. what we do know is it's going to be predicated on many arab states including sunni governments to get involved monetarilily and other means, to get behind this effort now. as far as what is happening in iraq and the airstrikes that continue against islamic state group forces by u.s. air assets, look, the obama administration has made some choices here. they put in, you talk about the 350 additional diplomatic security. that brings a total of 820 people with that military personnel. many have helped evacuate americans. instead of doing that the administration decided to go forward with these airstrikes to assist the iraqi army and security forces as well as the peshmerga in pushing back the islamic state group forces, an effort as josh reported is meeting with some success. now into that vacuum, into that area you do have some semblance at least of a federal autho
