we're seeing gusts as high as 45 miles per hour out towards new york city. as high as 65. cold pool of air still remains the story. we'll talk about these temperatures driving. all of our major hubs will have a lot of delays so keep that in mind. there's that cold pool of air. look at these temperature changes. we're warming ahead of that line of storms and now that we're behind the line of storms look at this cold pool. temperatures dropping as much as 30 degrees below from yesterday. >> all right, thank you. >>> it is now day three of a tense standoff in alabama where a gunman is holding a 6-year-old boy hostage in an underground bunker. the boy was dragged off his school bus tuesday afternoon in midland city after the gunman shot and killed the bus driver. authorities are communicating with the suspect through a pvc tube. they also sent down prescription medicine, crayons and coloring books for the 6-year-old hostage. school officials are calling the bus driver a hero. they say his quick thinking saved the lives of 21 children on his bus. george howell is

city on high alert. >> reporter: in the airspace above washington, helicopters and jets will enforce a virtual no-fly zone for 30 milesall directions from the u.s. capitol. six miles of the potomac and anacostia rivers will be shut down, with 150 blocks of downtown washington closed to traffic, partly out of concern for car or truck bombs. >> we have to be prepared for everything, so that's the way we do. we prepare with all of our partners and try to come up with a plan for every eventuality. >> reporter: much of inaugural security will be visible for protection and crowd control, with countersnipers on top of buildings around the capitol and along the parade route. some not so visible, detectors monitoring the air for toxins and plain-clothed security teams at subway and train stations watching for suspicious behavior. at the ready near the capitol, thousands of doses of antidotes in case of a chemical or biological attack. no firm figures are available, but officials say all this security will cost about $120 million for hundreds of federal agents, thousands of local police and national guardsmen from 25 states. th
