we are learning some mill valley schools are closed, but mill valley middle school is still closed becausethere's flooding in 35 of their classrooms there. meteorologist, kari hall, is here, and it was a lot of rain in a short amount of time, and it was shocking. >> yeah, it was. this, on many levels, was a historic storm. it set a lot of records. for it to be so early in the season, it was extremely powerful. look at some of the rainfall totals. santa rosa, 10.5 inches of rain. that's the surplus of 9 inches for normal. this is the comparison for the water year. then we look at the percentage of normal. >> we don't want to see that. >> you look at santa rosa, and that's 967% of normal for the rainfall for the water year. it's early. we're 26 days into the water year. this is not the drought. the drought does not reset with the calendar. on thursday, we get the drought update, and we will see if we made some progress. overall, the thinking is that we will see a little bit of change, but not a lot because it's more long term in looking at the overall picture in terms of the drought. >> i sa

estimated rain totals will be heavier through san jose and mill valley and guerneville. look at sunday night into monday morning, some of the highest totals in the coastal towns in the north bay. there's going to be a lot of rain shadowing through the south bay. those totals are going to be significantly less. this is the most rain potential that we have seen since january of this year 2021. we're concerned because of all the burn scars out there with possibly debris flows. look at the snow we could potentially see. several inches of snow out of that system leading into the weekend. we're going to see another system moving in overnight into friday morning. we get a little bit of a break friday afternoon leading into saturday morning. then we get the arrival of that third system that's going to make for some of our heaviest rainfall. sunday afternoon into monday temperatures remain in the low to mid 60s. it's one of those cozy, comfortable rainy days. >> oakland has a series of crashes. i believe they're unrelated to each other along the nimitz. 880 south around 16th ther

and for the north bay we have 70s returning from ukiah to novato and some 60s in there for mill valley. now, i think we're good for this again as we move through tomorrow's forecast. by this weekend into next week we'll see some changes. by this weekend, the system to the north brings some cooler conditions and some clouds. tha next chance of rain. let me show you what we're seeing on those rain totals. still about a quarter to an half inch on average. on my seven-day forecast, san francisco stays dry right through halloween with 63 degrees and those rain chances not only for next monday but a second system next wednesday and thursday. that looks like it could have some stronger totals of a quarter to one inch. we'll see those 60s also returning for those inland valleys. so friday, tgif. it's almost here and it's going to be amazing. then we're back with cool, wet conditions. >> halloween has been saved. >>> all right, coming up, are you finding it a little hard to make a decision lately? it actually may not be your fault. how the pandemic could be impacting our ability to make choices

you can see that deeper green from sandra fell down through mill valley as well as from richmond rightds areas like hercules and right across the carquinez bridge to. as for the south bay, you've been much quieter san jose of re yet to really tap into rainfall. you'll get there into the evening tonight, couple light showers on the peninsula in areas like woodside up to santa tail. some light on and off sprinkles at this moment, this cold front, the second of our systems will be pushing into night. so right now we're just dealing with some residual moisture from that first system. we're on the warm edge of the system. so today's going bring daytime highs into the 70's and showers of a spotty variety. you'll see areas of heavy rain in just pockets. this is at 11:00am this morning that shower moving its way right up the peninsula into the east bay by 04:00pm mostly in north bay event. but into the evening, especially past midnight that next system makes its way through this is 04:30am. right here for earliest of commuters. and you can see just how deep that orange. is that your heavy rain

just this morning, mill valley making a decision to close all of the schools due to hazardous conditions. tam high school is also keeping its students home today due to a lack of power on campus. several schools also canceling classes in sonoma county including anderson valley community day school and all schools in the bennett valley union school district. some of guerneville schools. and montgomery elementary is closed due to a power outage and possible water leaks. >>> water levels starting to return back to normal. we can see some of the muddy banks. there were some serious concerns last night as debris was backing up, triggering flood warnings there. part of the problem, the support beams where the creek passes fairfax town hall. things were just getting caught up there. we capture someday nest cam video last night as crews were assessing the damage as well. and those on scene struggled with the debris from the creek that began clogging up and even brought in a backhoe to help move away some of those branches. a few days ago when we were in the area, people talked about flooding, bu

looking at the possibility of getting over an inch of rain in santa rosa, close to an inch of rain in mill valley. that's stopping at 11:00 in the morning on thursday. i do think we'll see some additional light rainfall on friday but overall we're looking at the least a quarter inch of rain for spots like dublin and fremont down to jose. redwood see pans out, keep in mind some spots may be higher. and then we go out a couple of weeks to see how the snow forecast. and it's just gets bigger and bigger. this morning about 33 inches in kingvale. right now showing 52 inches of snow. that's crazy isn't it in kingvale. they just got about ten inches of snow with this last system that passed through and it will be awhile before we see this amount of snow. so some of it might melt but heading into halloween weekend, we could be watching a very serious storm for the sierra. really great to see that because we know it's been so dry. and we are going to see more showers moving in. so off and on rain in the forecast starting up once again late tuesday night into wednesday. could be some lingering light shower
