they're called to el camino reale, they saw the suspect running in and out of traffic in millbrae. and what did we know so far. >> reporter: that man was shot with a taser several times. this happened yesterday afternoon, and el camino is a busy road. this started at 1:00 p.m., witnesses described seeing that man acting belligerent. he was walking in and out of ar attempted to stop him. kevin ramirez who works nearby, one deputy got out of his car, there was a struggle and that man was tased more than once. >> he tased him down, and once he was on the ground, i said stop, stop, put on the handcuffs and just stop. >> the sheriff's office issued a press release, part of it says, the deputy exited his vehicle to contact the suspect and the suspect immediately assaulted the deputy. streets around the area were closed for hours during the investigation, and the individual has been described as a 36-year-old from san mateo county and his name has not been released. the san mateo district attorney's office and the coroner's office are taking over the investigation. investigation. >>> our

authorities in millbrae this morning revealing few details about a man who died yesterday after a violent confrontation with deputies. investigators certainly still have a lot to sort out here. it started when someone called 911 about a man walking on traffic on busy el camino real. the sheriff's office says that man assaulted the first arriving deputy as that deputy tried to remove him from traffic. at some point the deputy tased him. one witness says that man got up and kept moving. >> i kept saying, sit down. don't do this. sit down. he continued to run down the street. he had a look of either he was -- to me it was either mentally challenged or on something. that's when the officer pretty much jumped on him, when they all fell. >> other responding deputies also deployed their tasers and investigators say mace was used. now, the still unidentified man died at the hospital, one deputy injured in the mayhem was also taken to the hospital. >>> it's 6:07. fairfield police offering a $500 reward for credible information about guns at or near schools in their city. it's not a new program. bu

the 37-year-old was reporting in and out of traffic in millbrae, when a deputy tried to stop him. the sheriff's office claimed the suspect assaulted the deputy who then called for backups and used a taser. the family hired john burris. >> you look at this. you have a 37-year-old man, apparently physically healthy, has contact with the police. they tased him. they did whatever they did, and he winds up dead. >> burris is calling for a moratorium on the use of tasers in san mateo county until deputies are properly trained. >>> a bold purse snatching caught on camera. look at this, it happened in a parking lot of an antioch grocery store recently and police say it happens way too often in the contra costa county city. now, officers are warning shoppers and drivers to be on alert. they say often thieves are not even waiting for people to park and get out of their cars before they attack. >> you've got a red light where they know you can't go anywhere, either open the door, break the window, take the property and leave. you are now stuck at that red lig light. where are you going to go

now demanding answers after a man died earlier this month shortly after being tased by police in millbrae. one onlooker filmed a part of the incident through snapchat. he was running through traffic at el camino real and then injured a deputy who tried to subdue him. other deputies came in to help and at least one of them deployed a taser. he later died at the hospital. now his family is calling for investigators to turn over all video. that could give them a look at what unfolded that day. >> the taser was used improperly. that should merit criminal prosecution for the officers who, in fact, used it improperly. the officer who did that without regard to the potential danger or harm or threat of a life should be held to a criminal standard. >> 36-year-old ocobi had a history of mental illness. the coroner's office is working to determine the cause of death and whether the taser was indeed a factor. meanwhile the officers involved are currently on paid leave. >>> now the man accused of brutally stabbing a woman to death on bart has been indicted by a grand jury now. the indictment charges

police have released the name of the man who died yesterday in millbrae following a struggle with a deputy) this morning we now know the name of the man who was died after a struggle with san mateo deputies. 36-year-old chinedu valentine okobi died wednesday after being transported to hospital following the struggle. police say okobi was running in and out of traffic and when a deputy approached him.. okobi attacked him. the san mateo county sheriff's office says a gun was not used.. but witnesses say a taser was used.. the sheriff's office declined to confirm that. a neighbor who has known okobi all is life says he's stunned.
