everybody dismissing millennials and so on. i've never gone in for that stuff, because as i student of history of course i know what nonsense it is. everybody plays the hand they're dealt by history. boomers didn't have the dust bowl and the depression but they had vietnam. the value and the power of institutions. so your conclusions about whether millennials can handle what they have been given by circumstance are probably shaped by the ideas that you already hold about the country, regardless of how old you are. if you think this country always eventually figures it out with its great genius of a self propelling institution, it would be easier to conclude good times are ahead. if you've already come to the idea that some very old chickens are coming home to roost. and americans have painted themselves into a corp, your prognosis is probably a little drearier. as the father of three millennials, kids that i adore, i find myself comforted. i think that we're going to figure it out. and on the eve of the powerball can only ask,
