when i did my first white paper on millennials, we interviewed about 50 millennials for the project to get some kind of, you know, vibe, and one of the things we heard over and over, because we asked the question how do you think you and older people are different in the way you think about the world? the main theme was one of the quotes was like i think older americans see the world as more black and white. we see more gray. and i think that is exactly directly related to the polarity question. in a bipolar world where you have a nuclear armed hostile ideologically opposed foe that you spend every minute thinking about, the world seems very simple, very black and white. we interpret everything that way. is this a good idea? is it against the communists? okay, do it; right? once they are gone, we didn't have a north star. i think the 90s especially was sort of a decade i don't know what to do. do you know what to do? i don't know what to do. we didn't know what to do. and then 9/11 happened, and everyone is like finally we have something to do again. and older people are like we have o
