[applause] >> good afternoon. it is a privilege and honor to be here. although i am a member of the royal historical society, i am from texas. it is an interesting story. part of it is how i got to theodore roosevelt from british history. as douglas mentioned, it comes through the many connections i came across. theodore roosevelt kept showing up. i teach at a university. we all teach everything. european history, american history. i was doing progressive history with my phd work. it is a combination of things that brought me to theodore roosevelt. i was looking for a way to approach him. i was asked for my university to give a speech on the special relationship between the united states and great britain. in doing the research for that, it came to my attention that, after he left the presidency, theodore roosevelt spent 12 months in t
