right now a house burning in milpitas. >> reporter: good morning. we're at a two-story home on farm crest avenue in milpittias. when firefighters arrived they found four people stuck on the roof trying to escape the fire. apparently the grandmother was burned and was transported to the hospital while the other three residents, a woman and her two daughters were being rescued by ladder. a couple of this many ended up jumping roof about 10 to 12 feet. understandably they were still pretty shaken up and did not want to go on camera. about 20 people were evacuated from the homes in five areas. neighbors have been allowed back into their homes but firefighters will remain out here for about another hour. some more sad news for their family. they had reported that their dog was inside the home. firefighters went in the first time and they did not find him. when they went back in side, they found the dog and he was deceased. >> definitely sad news. >> we've been in and out of systems for the past couple days. anything in the works, rob,s a we move forward

the first call came after 2:50 for a fire at a home in milpitas. firefighters say the fire was on the 1st floor. the grandmother was burned before she made their way to the roof. a second alarm was called because the first priority was to get the family down. >> they were in distress on the roof. we laddered the building but they were in distress so they jumped off the roof with assistance from police and us, the fire, and others were take were off the roof with ladders. >> after they recused the family they knocked down the flames in 15 minutes. 20 people were evacuated from five hopes but were let in an hour later. the four rescued from the roof have to stay elsewhere. the red cross has been called. the family's dog died in the fire and firefighters say they found it on the first floor. the work here, firefighters say they have a lot of work to do to make sure all the fire is outside and board up the weapons and the roof. >>> thanks, matt. we are 12 hours away from the giants first home game of the 2014 world series and fans are ready to show tea

it's in north san jose close to the milpitas border. san jose water company handed out notices to 300 homes telling them the water may have been contaminated with the e. coli bacteria. they've been advised it's not safe to drink water. if they are gonna cook they need to boil it. milpitas school is in the neighborhood and there's warnings to students and staff. the problem was discovered when crews were replacing a pipeline and took samples and found the contamination. san jose water officials say after further testing, they've determined the water is only contaminated at 50 homes on sidney drive and sidney court. we spoke with a man who lives on that road this morning. >> i knew they were tearing unstreet and they probably made a -- up the street and they probably made a mistake. at least they are giving you free water. i would expect some type of rebate on my bill at least. >> reporter: san jose water is providing free bottled water at fire station 19 located at sierra and piedmont road. a spokesman said the ban to drink water is stil
