milton bradley is saying all the right things. he doesn't seem offended by it. lou piniella admitted that maybe he went off a little bit too much. he apologized to bradley. the bigger issue as far as the cubs making the playoffs, it's not bradley's behavior, it's his batting. he went 1-8 over the weekend. he's hitting .230 out of the three spot. i think that that is a much more significant issue as far as chicago's postseason hopes versus this little dust-up between bradley and pi nell lamp. >> and the cubs only have two more years on his contract. that's going to be a tough situation for piniella in chicago. >> it's not like the beecher bums are going to forget about it. if you're batting .230, they'll let you hear about it. bradley is one of those guys that can be the nicest guy. he flew four of his best friends to new york for the all-star game, got them great seats. i hear a couple days later he didn't talk to them. you just never know with the guy. >> can't believe you brought up halle berry, but nice work out of you, bet. you there was recently an incident

so what they had last year with josh hamilton, milton bradley, guys who would work counts, guys who would make pitchers go deep, now they're just up there swinging. you wouldn't see the best hitting coach in baseball would have a team that is just a bunch of free swingers without any concept or any idea of how the approach an at-bat. but right now that's what they are. they need to go back to the basics and start taking pitch, working counts, getting into hitter's counts and walking a little bit and then hitting the home run. >> you know it because you lived it. it is so hard to determine and weigh in, in this long season that is a baseball season of finding out if an issue is serious or not. then we have the yankees, five straight win, three and a half out of first behind boston, and now they take on the surprising seattle mariners. let's talk about the yankees quickly. do they have something going now? >> they do. we knew that they were going to score runs when teixeira got past his early season struggles that he has every year. you knew they were going to score. the problem i think i h

say that about so many of the guys in that lineup, alfonso soriano, derrek lee, geovany soto, milton bradley. we expected that to be another big bat and it hasn't happened with the cubs. play the role of lou piniella for a moment. what do you do with this lineup? >> they're paying all their hit soars much money. it's tough to make a big change. the big question mark has always been alfonso soriano, do we leave him leadoff or let him hit third or fourth? i believe he likes to be on top. he's not hitting well. that's key. i was a leadoff hitter my whole career, as you go, the rest of your team goes. he's hitting .225. he's not where he needs to be as a leadoff guy when you're playing these big guys to hit you in. as a team, the combination of them all are not getting it done and it shows with their average with run centers scoring position, .227. that's not going to get it done. they need to all step up and they all need to do what they need to do. each guy has a role. you need to step up and everybody has to fill that role. >> entering play today, the third worst offense in the major league,
