here on the mainland, since then, and since i then in the house of representatives, with congressman minetta at the time we were able to begin this idea of setting aside time for asian americans, and we felt that we need to excite the asian-americans throughout the country to begin to look for areas they can work in politically. so our bill was passed to set aside asian-pacific american week. we passed it, and it came about, and after 10 years, we felt that a week was too short. so we put in another bill to make it a whole month. so the month was set aside for asian-pacific americans, and that was passed >> there has been a lot of activity in groups that have come forward. now we are beginning to see more members in congress who are asian. it is beginning to change. we have a government now, they had governors and mayors. it is beginning to change. we have a government and members of congress have increased. we have had -- also i am here. i expect these organizations to begin to make differences. >> you're watching american history tv. to join the conversation, like us on facebook. >> next.
