let's bring in washington dc police chief pamela smith and minneapolis police chief o' hera. >> in minneapolisand our police officers have been through a whole lot over the last three years. the murder of george floyd, the destruction of the city that followed. very quickly, violent crime did rise here. and it did impact our most vulnerable residents at a level we have not seen in decades. we have had significant success in reducing crimes. it does remain at unacceptably high levels. higher than what had been normal for this city prior to the pandemic. >> chief smith, violent crime did increase in your city even when it dropped around the country. why is that happening? >> well, i think on last year, again, we have seen crime significantly go up since the pandemic during the george floyd days and clearly when it came to the change in police reform in laws. but what i can say is that today, significantly, we have seen a decrease in our crime and our violent crimes as well as our property crimes and our overall crime in the district of columbia. >> i want to bring into our conversation, detroit

we're looking at blizzard conditions likely up in the northern plains from the dakotas to minneapolis, because we will have some heavy snow and that wind blowing around on the warmer side of things you've got some heavy rain and then you fuse do you that kind of red outlined area. we could be looking at some strong and severe thunderstorms as well damaging winds, large hail, maybe even a few tornadoes. all of this on sunday, this continues to push east to by monday, we're still looking at some heavy snow wrapping into minneapolis, even down as far south as omaha. and that's severe threat continues to work its way east along the golf coste with the heavy rain, the threat of damaging winds and some hail as well. the rain takes its way eastward as we head into tuesday. but again, the snow, i mean, look at all these pinks that are showing up. we can easily get totals of six to 12 inches. some of those higher totals could be approaching a foot and spots very seal all of this pink lined up. and when you again compare it to the season, a place like fargo in the dakotas has only gotten eight

minneapolis has led the way on zoning reform.od, the state's rent increased 14%, but the city's increase was just 1%. we want to know if zoning reform is being considered in your area. the university of california, berkeley, has been tracking efforts aimed at addressing housing shortages around the united states. they have an interactive map showing where reforms have already been approved, like los angeles, philadelphia, albuquerque and where they're ongoing, like denver, louisville and austin. stephen menendian is the assistant director at uc berkeley's othering and belonging institute. anything you do that can loosen up the cost or expedite development can often make housing also more affordable. so, for example, if you have a condominium or an apartment building and there's a requirement of 1 to 1 or maybe even more than that, parking to unit and you waive that, that means you don't need to have, you know, a large portion of the development allocated or earmarked for parking stalls. so, so those kinds of things really help. z
