he raised minnie bell, he wanted minnie bell to understand what he did during the war. and so in 1872 he said about writing these memoirs. and they were titled then memoirs of my experience in the war for southern independence. and they were really met, he said in the preface to the memoirs, that they were meant for her and he bemoaned repeatedly in his memoirs how he had ancestors who were in the revolution from virginia. but we knew nothing about them. and he said that's really sad. he says i wish i knew more about my ancestors that serve in the revolution. and he literally set about making sure that wouldn't happen to subsequent generations thinking about him. and these memoirs were actually handed to me by a member of his family some years ago. and they were a type script. the handwritten memoir was reduced to typewritten, typewriting in 1927. and you can imagine what in 1927 typewriter did to a page. all of the os were black dots and all of the bs and ds were all block dots. but -- and this memoir was kind of funny. when he wrote it, it was like a stream of conscio

learned more about this man that vallejo police found shot to death right here at this median at minniedrive. the information comes from this man. he tells us the man who died here was living in vallejo and has parents who live here. he also says the victim had just gotten out of prison a few weeks ago. pinocchio couldn't say if what happened last night was tried to his friend's past but he came out here to see what his friend saw before he took his last breath. he's also hoping something will lead police to the individual involved. >> i hope they do catch the person. i hope so. you take a life. you should have to give yours up. >> reporter: now, all police are saying right now, is that officers arrived at this meeting near the intersection of sonoma boulevard and minnie drive. now, officers were called out here before 9:00 last night to find the 28-year-old man dead inside of his ford explorer. police are checking to see if the chevron mini-mart had anything to do with this. we're made several phone calls to the vallejo police department, the coroner's office. we've asked the chevron s

it's a good area to avoid, minnie drive in vallejo. >>> we also have another crash. the peninsula. tara moriarty is on the side of the road with more on this crash. tara. >> reporter: well, sal, chp officers say the man involved in this accident is lucky to be alive. we are here off 280. we're right on the exit here. you can see behind me that there is a lot of traffic impacted by the accident and chp is still on the scene. this is interstate 280 southbound. we're at the farmhill boulevard exit. around 6:30, a driver on the other side of the freeway, noticed a man lying on the shoulder of the road. he called 911 and now officers are telling us that the victim got into an accident on the southbound side, then called across all of the lanes of traffic where he ended up on the roadside. >> for unknown reasons, he was traveling southbound on 280 unknown speed and for -- for unknown reasons, his vehicle went off the roadway and off the shoulder and hit the guardrail, overturned on the right side there. right now we're still investigating. >>> officers ran a traffic break
