a man was killed on a flooded road in baton rouge, louisiana, and that's where mireya villarreal is.> reporter: baton rouge rescue crews rushed into action this morning, saving this woman who was trapped by the flash flooding. the fast-moving storms dumping more than three inches of rain in about an hour in parts of louisiana turned deadly. one man was killed as he tried to escape his flooded car. 40 miles west of baton rouge, parts of henderson, louisiana, are now submerged. and if the water wasn't enough, the wind made it worse. multiple tornadoes were reported, one barreled through baton rouge, flipping cars, toppling trees, and shredding the roof off this apartment complex. the last few weeks have seen record-shattering rainfall across the southern u.s. the swollen arkansas river has put a strain on aging levees and nearly wiped out some communities in both arkansas and oklahoma. >> it wasn't much, but it was ours. we have over five feet of water. we lost everything. >> reporter: the loss amplified by the latest forecast that's calling for more rain in the next few days. mireya v

mireya villarreal is in alabama tonight. >> reporter: marshae jones' arrest came some six months afterhe 28-year-old, who was five months pregnant at the time, was shot in the stomach. according to the grand jury indictment, jones intentionally caused the death of her unborn baby by initiating a fight, knowing she was five months pregnant, concluding it was g used in a sudden heat of passion. the fight happened last december at this birmingham, alabama ingurb shopping center. the grand jury found the shooter, 23-year-old ebony jemison, acted in self-defense sen she pulled out a gun. the manslaughter charges against jemison have been dropped. this case has quickly become a lightning rod for pro-abortion- rights activists. one abortion advocacy group said they would help raise jones' $50,000 bail posting, "losing a pregnancy is not a crime." alabama recently passed one of the most-restrictive abortion laws in the country. some see jones' case as a new attack on women. pro-abortion rights activists are calling this a slippery slope and question if a pregnant woman is seen having a drink o

mireya villarreal is there. mireya, how bad is the damage? >> reporter: the damage looks pretty bad right now. as you can see, this is what was left behind in the wake of the storms. this tree was behind the home. it snapped and ended up on the roof. you can't even see the door, guys. a lot of families tell me they got the tornado warning just minutes before this thing hit. massive flooding covers parts of louisiana after hours of torrential rain. >> when i saw the rubbish and everything go in the air, i thought, oh, my god. >> reporter: severe storms slammed gulf coast parishes, caused flash flooding and kicked up high winds. tornados flew through the baton rouge area with winds powerful enough to rip trees out of the ground. cassie harper barely made it inside. >> the roof was actually somewhat intact, but the water was pouring through, and we got her bed out of here, but as soon as jeffrey's brother walked up, the entire roof fell. >> your daughter could have been in here. >> yeah. >> reporter: harper said she was lucky she took her kids t
