grant money and donations to help keep the community safe. about 13- thousand dollars will bring a new addition the k-9 unit. a tracking dog will be used to look for missing persons .. runaways .. and fugitives. and as wsls 10's bethany teague explains .. the rest of the money is helping officers look at what their car and body cameras are recording. the radford police department now has a more efficient way to look at what goes on between officers and citizens on the streets. 08-:11 mike jenkins, radford police department - with this system, all i do is pull into the back lot, and it begins to download. in-car cameras are nothing new.. but until now.. every time officers wanted to view something their camera captured.. they would have to manually download it and burn it to a dvd. now.. thanks to a grant for new wifi and software equipment.. it's as simple as pulling into the :32-:35 immediately, it syncs to wifi and downloads the in-car camera system, which saves us a lot of time, a lot of effort, removes those human errors. the new system also gives officers more than twice the storage space.. so they don't have to worry about missing a crucial moment.
