the ceremony was held at san francisco's lands end across san francisco's mission district .he fiesta continued today as the city celebrated its 46th annual carnaval. nbc bay area's emma goss was there for the festival and parade honoring the bay area's diverse latin american cultures and heritage. carnival in san francisco brings together people from across cultures and across the bay area from the elaborate costumes. yeah, it's my third year with dancing with tampa bay to latin music and dancing. this year's carnaval in san francisco honored the indigenous roots of cultures from mexico, central and south america, the caribbean, the u.s, and of course, the home of the world's largest carnaval brazil. i remember brazil because carnival brazil is so huge, like traditional, so i want to bring them the spirit of carnival. maybe one day they'll be old enough to be in the parade. oh, yes, for sure. families and friends lined the parade route sunday, spanning 20 blocks through the mission district. there's all ethnicities here brazilian latin america, central america, south america

now, whether it was an accident or deliberately set, a big party in san francisco's mission district is wrapping up right now. the city celebrating its 46th annual carnaval this weekend with a parade and festival honoring the bay area's diverse latin american cultures. nbc bay area's amigos spoke to parade goers about what it means to see their cultural heritage on full display that is growing every year. you know, it's growing and growing. from the elaborate costumes. yeah, it's my third year with dancing with samba to latin music and dancing . this year's carnaval in san francisco honored the indigenous roots of cultures from mexico central and south america, the caribbean, the u.s. and of course, the home of the world's largest carnaval. brazil i remember brazil. mcosker brazil is so huge, like traditional. so i want to bring them the spirit of carnival. maybe one day they'll be old enough to be in the parade. oh yes. for sure. families and friends lined the parade route sunday, spanning 20 blocks through the mission district. there are all ethnicities here. brazilian latin americ

and it takes over several blocks of the mission district.ty yu has been out there all morning long, and i like the ride. betty i like it. >> thank you. claudine i picked this one myself. i decided to make myself comfortable. this is one of 200 lowriders that will be participating in today's carnival, parade and festival. no doubt this is one of the most popular parts of the festival. i want to show you the license plate behind on this vehicle. here. it says fun house, which i'm told by the owner, means this is a total fun house on wheels. and i don't disagree with that. now a little bit about carnival. all of this began 46 years ago and believe it or not, at that time there were seven lowriders participating in this festival. and of course, now it's grown to hundreds of thousands of people, which we expect at around 930 this morning. that's when the parade kicks off. carnival covers 17 blocks on harrison between 16th and 24th streets. there are five main stages 50 local performers. we're seeing a lot of the floats getting ready here along th

here's the mission district.re waiting for the clouds to build back in tonight and we'll have gray skies for the morning tomorrow, anyway. here's a review on that. the marine layer this morning, going back to 9:00 a.m., had everybody under it. and this stuff was pretty thick. we were getting light mist in the east bay hills and peninsula. and throughout the remainder of the day, look how fast it momented -- melted away and disappeared. it does not come back as intensely tomorrow. but for sunday morning, we've still got some marine layer that builds back in once again. that gets us to 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. this is not a total gray out. it's not like an overdoing it of the may gray. but you do have, we're not getting mist out of that either. and it's not going to last that long. by the afternoon, it will be sunshine again for everybody. then we go into sunday night into monday, and monday morning the marine layer is back, and we're looking to fill in the immediate bay. so there's the start of memorial day proper at 7

coming up, san francisco's mission district set to get some new affordable housing will tell you when construction is expected to start. >> more than 30 million dollars in state funding is going to go towards building affordable housing. >> in san francisco's mission district, the money will be used to develop casa de latte. it's located on south van avenue and it will provide 168 affordable homes to low-income families, formerly homeless families and people living with hiv earning between 25 to 80%. the san francisco area median income. the project is expected to begin construction in the winter of 2025. a group of nearly 50 mayors are in washington, d.c., this week calling on congress and the white house to do more to help cities manage homelessness. the group is calling congress to prioritize getting veterans off the streets. they say many veterans are ineligible for federal housing assistance because their va benefits put them above the income threshold. >> this is america in the 21st century. no one should be an house. >> the bipartisan group of mayors is calling on congress to a

massachusetts for sentencing. >> new at six san francisco police have reportedly picked the mission districtt two police owned surveillance cameras in the city. according to mission, local police chief bill scott held a community meeting this week where he announced the cameras are going to be placed on mission street at 19th and 24th streets. this is coming after voters approved proposition e back in march to expand police power throughout the city. police say the new cameras could help investigate crimes like homicide, assault, rape and arson. these cameras will be labeled with large blue signs within 25ft of their locations. we're learning more about one. city leaders plan to bring a new kind of 4th of july celebration to san francisco. district four supervisor joel engardio says a parade in his own backyard, the outer sunset, could be the start of a new tradition for san francisco. so here's the plan. the parade will be hosted on the great park, the great highway, which closes to traffic and transforms the park on the weekends. now, the only catch is the date is a bit early . >> 4th of j
