system is coming out of texas and will produce severe weather during the day tomorrow in the mississippi river valley. tomorrow night, still wedged in. a band of heavy showers and thunderstorms. when will the wedge break down? if it doesn't, heavy thunderstorms, not severe weather. that is the big question. chris is in the weather center. if the wedge breaks down, we could see severe weather. chris: could you believe this time last week, we were talking about ice. now we are talking thunderstorms. it is all about the front moving through on wednesday. the severe threat index is four out of 10. the biggest threat is from flash flooding, but wind damage as the timeframe is looking earlier and earlier, to midmorning. here is a look at the wind shear, the mid-level spin in the atmosphere. the yellow is the greatest spin. as we head into wednesday morning, that is to the west. wednesday afternoon, a lot of the wind shear, or thunderstorm fuel, moves towards kentucky. a bit of it moves through charlotte and greenville, south of i-85. that brings us the threat of thunderstorms. john, we have the flood threa

gulf of mexico generating severe weather over the next couple of days over the plains and mississippi river valley by be in a weakened state giving us a few showers as we head towards tuesday night into wednesday morning and there will be a push of cool air behind it. now the system behind that is beginning to come into the pacific northwest and the computer models have been having a dickens of a time trying to resolve that system to observe it and see the structure of it and what it's going to do but now that it's close to coming inland into the western united states with the weather network a better idea what that system looks like and what it will do later in the week. there is a chance there will be enough cold air around so wet snow flakes might mix in with rain sometime late thursday night into early friday morning but at this point it doesn't look like a scary situation with regard to winter weather something that would remind you the early portion of march. let's take a look at all of this from a simulation standpoint with the upper level temperatures. today of course we were green and yel

the story is much, much, much more interesting across the lower mississippi river valley. this is where a low pressure system is really churning things up. weather, and the potential for tornadoes for louisiana, parts of mississippi, and that tornado threat stretching over toward the panhandle of florida. we'll track this system as it head east tomorrow, and as it gets closer to us, we have to start thinking about the potential for some showers or severe weather coming into our area. right now it louk the great 30 for severe weather may be north of us but even over south florida we're not going to rule out damaging winds or maybe an isolated tornado coming through. this forecast model showing the balance of the day is going to be quiet, butut as we're near tech afternoon, say 5:00, there may be a line of showers or gusty storms entering the west#part of the peninsula, crossing our area between 7:00 an 8:00. it pushes out, we start to clear out, dry out and cool down as well. we'll be here tracking any storms that develop late in the day. hopefully they're not severe but we
