nbc 10's mitch blacher live at the demonstration. set the scene for us where you are. >> reporter: we are in north philadelphia on erie and broad street, where a small but loud group of peaceful protesters has been out here. they are obviously honoring michael brown. they rls out here honoring many women who have been victims of what they call police brutality. they are in the process of just getting started at this point. we have heard a lot of horns honking, a lot of people supporting this group of a little bit more than a dozen people who are at erie and broad street. again, horns honking and we actually have seen more police officers as you can see across the street and down the street than protesters but these people are making their voices heard as we spoke with an event organizer earlier today. >> we are just coming together to stand in solidarity with the ferguson action and to also just let the public know that we are here, let the public officials know that we are here and that this movement is not something in philadelphia

live in norristown, i'm mitch blacher, nbc 10 news. >>> the man who was found with rosie o'donnell's missing teenaged daughter was in a south jersey courtroom today to face criminal charges. take a look at steven shearer's mug shot. investigators say he sent chelsea o'donnell a nude photo. he is 25. she is 17. authorities tracked down o'donnell at the man's home in barnegat after she took off from her mother's house in nyack, new york this month. she was gone for a week. rosie o'donnell put out an online alert for her daughter when she didn't come home. shearer faces chargers of child endangerment and distribution of obsess obscenity for a minor. he could get up to ten years in prison. >>> new information within the past hour about the men accused of shooting a state trooper in louisiana. officers now say they just found his roommate dead and they believe he was murdered. this morning, the injured state trooper died of his injuries. according to police, trooper steven vincent was responding to reports of an erratic driver in a pickup truck outside lake charles, louisiana yesterday. t

. >> investigative reporter mitch blacher first started asking about the issue back in february. ter he told regulators about the latest leak we are seeing results. mitch is live in grays ferry with more on what's being done. >> reporter: we are on grays ferry avenue. look at this street. it's pock marked. it's been torn up several times over the past few months. as we have been reporting on what residents have called a gas safety issue. they continually smelled gas in the street over the course of those months. now pgw says there is going to be a fix. they are going to tear up this street, two miles of gas main they are going to replace beneath grays ferry avenue. >> 50 feet. >> reporter: philadelphia gas workers were not eager to show off their work. this was the third time since february we documented them repairing something on grays ferry avenue. this time they pushed us back, they say for safety. we watched as people walked and drove by closer than we were allowed. still not happy we were there workers took an extra step, blocking the work site from our cameras. is that all

. >> mitch blacher joins us live in the digital operations center with just how rare it is for police to have a suspect in a case like this. >> reporter: think about this. in the last 18 months in the city of philadelphia there have been eight deadly hit and runs. only one of those currently has a suspect. david is one of thousands affected by hit and run accidents every year in philadelphia, thanks to surveillance video and persistent police work, this man, miguel colon, has been identified as the man behind the wheel. >> we have circumstantial evidence, direct evidence, video evidence. >> reporter: last week, the nbc 10 investigators revealed nearly 23,000 hit and run accidents in the city since january 2014. we mapped them and found the four block stretch where david died is the deadliest in philadelphia. we also found hundreds of drivers hit and left the scene when someone was injured or a car was so damaged it had to be towed. >> if you strike someone and you leave the scene, you are facing a mandatory sentence, three years in prison. >> reporter: criminal defense lawyer michael

. >> nbc 10's mitch blacher is live outside the courthouse in norristown where the hearing is still under way. >> we understand you have new video to show us? >> reporter: we do. at this point this hearing continues going on at the montgomery county courthouse here in norristown. this is the first chance that any of the evidence has been put out into the public view. the prosecution basically has to convince a judge there is enough evidence to continue to trial. the first pictures as you mentioned from inside the courthouse have just come to us. they are sketch pictures of kathleen kane sitting in the defendant's chair, facing eight charges, one felony, seven misdemeanors. prosecutors say kane leaked confidential grand jury information all to embarrass a rival, then lied about it when she was asked under oath. kane's legal team inside the courthouse continue to object to some of the prosecution's evidence which is one of the reasons that we are told this hearing has gone on for four hours. the testimony has included kane's staffers and montgomery county detectives. at this point, kane con

. >> nbc 10's mitch blacher is here to explain more on the new information. >> this is now the fifth time mayor nutter has publicly updated plans for the pope's visit. today, more details emerged about transportation options as well as what those who live in center city will and won't be able to do. the mayor confirmed five weeks from today the u.s. secret service will wall off sections of center city. the pope's visit is an event with a security factor philadelphia has never seen. >> our city has experienced the planning for special events that can sometimes interrupt daily life. >> reporter: the mayor says plans are in place for the roughly 7% of the city's population living in what will be the highest security zones. residents will be able to drive but can't leave and re-enter the security perimeter. >> given the volume of pedestrians in the area, in and on the streets of our city at that time, we really don't recommend a lot of driving. >> reporter: maps of hospitals, places of worship and general walking distances will be up throughout the city. once the barriers go up on thursd
