we have reaction from senator mitch mcconnell in that meeting at the nrsc with donald trump. mcconnell was asked by reporters if he had endorsed trump in this meeting. he said, i already have some time back. he says he thinks everybody felt it was quite good and he indicated already he's endorsed him earlier. he was asked what issues mcconnell and trump talked about. he said we talked about a variety of things both campaign related and issue related. this is some of the first reaction we're getting from that meeting with senate leadership. mitch mcconnell calling it quite good. yet another sign as we add to what luke has been reporting and katy from reince priebus, the signal going out at least is that it was positive discussions moving forward. >> that is definitely the signal being put out there. also with us at this hour, adam. >> thanks, good to be here. >> you were not in any of these meetings today. you told a local station in chicago you're not going to support him until he changes his tone. have you had any contact, though, with some of your colleagues who did meet wit

ryan and mitch mcconnell have been studies in contrast since trump set up the nomination. an holding out. mcconnell kidding on board -- getting on board. talk about the personal styles. mitch mcconnell is the ultimate pragmatist and he is also someone who can see the roman corner -- see around the corner politically. paul ryan is in a different position as the head of the party, the chairman of the convention, much more visible. some of mcconnell's strengths are backroom strengths. they had kind of different responsibilities and different challenges. so, when you see the public reluctance of paul ryan, when we know of him as being this policy did not even wonk, want to be speaker -- embracing net position -- and wanting to defend conservatism of this modern time and move it in a way that is more appealing to a broader base. mcconnell is playing a tactical game. he is kind of the new majority leader and does not want to see that go away with the election. they have got 24 seats on the ballot. democrats only have 10. she does not want to lose his majority. the message she is

the statement yesterday from mitch mcconnell. trump got a more full throated endorsement from the mike huckabee. he said he's all in for donald trump's fall campaign. the oklahoma governor mary fallon saying she'd be open to joining trump's ticket. i've not had any direct contact with mr. trump, but i'd be very honored if i were to receive a call saying i need you to help make america great again. jacob rascon is here to give us the latest the vp talk. and kasie hunt to help us with the fine line republicans are treading as they deal with trump as their nominee. this question of the veep stakes. let's start with you on that. interesting, mary fallon, the governor of oklahoma seems open to it. john kasich who got out of the race yesterday, we're hearing a lot about that. who is on the list? who is not on the list? what do we know? >> governor fallon is one of the only ones who have said they're open to that. trump's staff is putting together a committee. ben carson is on that committee helping to choose. trump himself says most im

mitch mcconnell is right.'s pragmatism and he sees where the republican party going. going to a more populist direction. i guess bill kristol doesn't like that, he has a right to feel that way. but i'm focus bd on the -- focused on the real threat to this country which is hillary clinton. if i give donald trump advice, i wouldn't focus on bill kristol. i would focus on defeating hillary nationally. not just in ohio or florida. but in national campaigns for american renewal. i think trump is like responding to kristol and in tweets. stop doing that. that is giving him more publicity and more oxygen and, you know, if i were bill kristol i would be worried that my magazine would start be spelled a different way, and maybe start -- maybe start figuring out why msnbc is booking you all the time. he's the go to guest on msnbc. i have always liked bill kristol, but this is only helping hillary clinton. >> a lot going on on the republican side. but on the democratic speaking of hillary clinton, she's bolting out of ne

mitch mcconnell said the meeting was constructive. i had the opportunity to talk to the chairman of the foreign relations committee, bob corker of tennessee, who has been mentioned as a possible trump vp pick about what he understood his colleagues thought of the meeting. take a listen. do you think it's a good step in the right direction? do you think your colleagues are getting to full-on yes with trump? >> i was not in the meeting. i heard comments at lunch. i got the strong sense that everyone who attended really felt good about the meeting. so i -- i would settle and say not only did they -- i've never met him, but -- not only did they say they enjoyed the meeting, but they really liked him. so i think -- from what i can tell, the mean, the reports to us today at lunch were very positive. >> reporter: so looks like the charm offensive by donald trump is certainly wooing lawmakers. the number two in the senate leadership tweeting out a picture of himself and donald trump giving the thumbs up. we'll see if those happy thoughts cont
