i'm andrea mitchell live in new york. in iran, the lawyer for the two hikers is making bail arrangements right now. in addition, the associated press reports a plane from oman has been sent into iran. that is the same procedure we stau a year ago today when the third hiker, sarah shroud, was released. ann curry is live exclusively in tehran. we have a satellite delay, but bear with us because your pore is so important. what are you now learning? >> reporter: well, we actually got the confirmation from the lawyer who represents the two american hikers that bail arrangements are now being made. however, the iranian government will not confirm that a plane is already as the ap is reporting on its way from oman. still, it does appear that just as the president ahmadinejad said, that these two american hikers would be released in a couple of days, it does appear that this is starting to happen pi a want to bring in our tehran bureau chief who has been covering the story since really it began. i want to ask you, this seems so s

russ mitchell toured the site with the father of one of the victims. >> come on over to the model. >>thousand times. >> from point of impact, 94th floor to the top, 1,365 people trapped up there. no way out. >> reporter: he never tires of talking about his son jonathan. >> i love the work. i love firefighting. i love helping people. >> reporter: lee, a vietnam veteran who spent 26 years in the new york city fire department, saw both of his sons, jonathan and brendan, follow in his foot steps. but on 9/11, jonathan, a 29-year-old father of two, didn't come home. what do you remember most about september 11th, 2001? >> my son's phone call. he said, dad, we're going to the world trade center. i said okay, buddy, be careful. he said, okay, dad. and that was the last time we spoke. >> reporter: after the towers collapsed, lee joined the search looking for his son and his squad. could they be underneath of that rubble? fingers crossed. but then thinking about it, no. >> reporter: lee spent nine months on what was called the pile. jonathan's body was found after three. a blessing, says lee.

andrea mitchell, thank you. >>> on wall street today, a dow quarter. the worst three months of the stocks since the financial meltdown in 2008. the dow lost more than 240 points to close out the third quarter with a 12% plunge. the nasdaq dropped more than 65 points for a 13% quarterly loss and the s&p was down just under 29 points off 14% for the quarter. >>> there was a lot of anger today about the announcement from bank of america that it will start charging customers $5 every month they use debit cards to buy things. as nbc's lisa myers tells us, add it to a growing list of fees banks are piling on customers these days. >> reporter: the prospect of paying $5 any month you buy something with your debit card did not sit well with some bank of america customers. >> they are making money off my money. so for them to then charge me for having a debit card i think is ridiculous. >> if the bank chooses to do that then i will pull my accounts and go to another bank. >> five times 12, you could have paid a bill with that. >> reporter: bank of america said t
