so talk about the mitigation strategies and what you see with these devices. what considerations must be given to the healthcare technology and the medical devices and how should we go about addressing that? >> i don't think i will be able to get a satisfying answer because if you were to be a fly on the wall in the board room on the hospitals were discussing the topic of the assurance of the clinical operations being continuous, at the moment they don't have a plan. it's more we need to get a plan. what can we do and it's some of the security officers saying the problem is we don't know what devices we have and we don't have a good inventory. we get a lot of contraband coming in, but typically it is they clinician to an important network that it is a music player that is simply providing comfort and they don't realize the safety security risk because they are not baked into the devices so the risk is more about having the assets coming into a very safety critical arena. they are aware of the data to china. this is the kind of thing that consumers are unaware

they are from other normal traffic to mitigate against attack. they are designed to make the american manufacture the devices so they don't capture the millions of devices purchased by the millions of people around the world come, so the vulnerabilities might remain. any sustainable and effective solution will require input from all members of the ecosystem of the so-called internet of things. we will need a concerted effort to improve not only device security to coordinate and improve the relationships between industry and security researchers. we are all in this together and the industry government researchers and consumers need to take responsibility for securing this internet of things so today we'll hear from a distinguished panel of witnesses to be brought to bear on this challenge and my hope is that the hearing will help us sustain and accelerate conversations on the security and foster the innovation that makes it the best the world has ever seen. i think the witnesses for being here. we appreciate your willingness to share your expertis

a lot of our election administrators will look at the risk involved to figure out how to mitigate the risks as were setting up our process and procedures. in virginia we've had a big change since last presidential election related to electronic transactions. we went through a paper-based voter registration process in the state to having online voter registration. we moved our dmv to electronic registration and so we went from a fully paperless system to in september, 73% of% of our registration transactions were electronic. so it has been figuring out and building then with the newer technology, building and the security of front and the ability to audit so the situation you mentioned in terms of voters showing up in the dmv process we took paperless but it's a process we built very carefully with the dmv to create an audit process for all the transactions. so somebody who doesn't appear on the pole on election day they be issued a provisional ballot, and give us time to research it at the local and state level. so we have an audit process that we can trace back and see when did the p
