we are getting rid of the mitt romneys of the world. polls tell a slightly different story -- a third of republican primary voters in north carolina and virginia said they would not vote republican in november regardless of the nominee. tuesday's elections did more than just decide the republican nomination. they reflected a deep schism in the party, dividing some lifelong republicans from trump's maga faction. to discuss this, i'm joined today by two republicans: former congressman denver riggleman from virginia and strategist barrett marson, who's based in phoenix. thank you is the much for joining me. denver, i want to start with you. senate minority ader mitch mcconnell endorsed trump within 24 hours after his super tuesday wins. that is the same man, mitch mcconnell, who called from morally and practically responsible for the january 6 insurrection. does his attempt at unity reflect the reality for voters? mr. riggleman: i think it does. if you look at mitch mcconnell, it is no different then he went to mar-a-lago after blaming tru

you know, i'd love to see list cheney, mitt romney, somebody like that do., you know a lot about mccraney if they could do anything. >> he's not going to do it. i asked him about this. this is the thing. i feel like as long as i've been covering politics, there have been these kind of long shot, well organized, well funded efforts to put together some kind of third-party that people might remember in 2012, americans elect, they secured ballot access in a bunch of states, got a bunch of donations that they couldn't find volleyball candidates and it imploded. 2016 you had people like mitt romney and bill kristol never dropped republicans were going around desperately searching for a standard bearer, to run a third party. they ended up settling on this no name guy. mcmullin. he didn't really make a dent. >> from utah? >> from utah. he made it done in utah nowhere. else but i think this is the problem. no labels has what seems like a possible case, right? >> in theory. >> in theory. on paper, americans are very dissatisfied with the two choices. but the problem

mitt romney, this was the period of time they turned mitt romney's bain capital experience into a liability he was low on cash. this six-week period, biden has this advantage right now. he's going to press this financial advantage. we're going to start to see the first hits on trump, what works, what is their framing -- what is their theory of the case. we're going to learn a lot. if he wins reelection, it will be because he set the predicate correctly in these six weeks. that's what i'm curious to watch. >> he's going to figure out now what to do when everybody's paying attention. most people are not paying attention right now. >> right. you want to -- you sort of like you got to lay the groundwork for what you hope becomes your closing essentially the argument you're making for that slice of voters since september and october. it's very possible in this rematch environment that nobody tunes in until october, right? that the crucial -- the truly persuadable voters that are not looking forward to this will tune in, but they're going to wait until as long as possible. i'm not watching the en

also, you've got the mitt romney factor, the popular us senator who's retiring, obviously a very harsh critic of donald trump over the years will mitt romney's influence so it's maybe influenced some republican voters here to swing to nikki haley. here's what i can show you about the caucus site. this is very dynamic caucus site in about five-and-a-half hours, the caucusgoers will arrive here at alto high school, newly renovated, massive high school here at the foot of the wasatch mountains here, beautiful view of the mountains behind me. you can see but we've got hundreds of voters who will start to converge here at about five-and-a-half hours. they will caucus here. they'll hear speeches, then they'll all vote at one time. and the one thing that could help donald trump hear that there will be a strong pull donald trump's way is that the caucus system here was adopted in 2016. it's run by the republican party, not the state. and that tends to draw more conservative voters that may favor donald trump. so that could be where he really picks up support here tonight, we'll known a few hou
