the driver, mohamed lahouaiej bouhlel rented the truck three days. he picked it up yesterday just a few hours before he got in behind the steering wheel and started to come up this street. francios said he drove two kilometers, well over a mile, mile and a half, on the way he shot at three policemen at a hotel just there. they responded and pursued him. eventually shot and killed him. and he was found in the passenger's seat. also in the vehicle were found a fake handgun and two fake assault rifles. we've discovered also that the suspect was sentenced to six months in prison for violence this year, but he still hadn't managed to go to jail or may have been an appeal. we wornt told about that. he was not under surveillance from french intelligence. and the prosecutor was saying obviously they are trying now the to find out if there were any accomplices to that man. i've also come from an interview about half hour ago with the mayor of nice. phillip tredell, he's been with french president hollande today. he said the truck at one point was driving at a

. >> mohamed lahouaiej bouhlel drove into the crowd. 84 is the death toll right now.an 200 was injured and sh bouhlel was shot to death by police. >> it is good to have you with us. if you can just explain to our viewer in the u.s. and around the world of the mood of people in nice and throughout france. how are the french coming together regarding to what happened there? >> well, i was pretty struck walking here. there is a huge crowd coming down to see the flowers here. the other crowds here, when you look down the promenade, there is these patches of memorials and flowers where all the bodies laid after the attack on thursday night and it really brings home and of what happen that evening. you can see children -- a truck running people over, it is really quite -- people are coming here and laying flowers on the beach in memory and a moment of silence as well. ten members of one congregation of one mosque, all perished in the attack. i any people are just still in shock. it is sinking in here and you can see some of the emotions. meanwhile our investigation continue

he is 31-year-old mohamed lagouaiej bouhlel. he is a tunisian national and prosecutors say he has a lengthy criminal history including threating, violence, and theft. as recently as march, he was prosecuted for violence with a weapon and received a suspended sentence. >> on the other hand, he is absolutely nowhere to be found in the intelligence files in the files of the intelligence surveys. >> we have learned that he was married and had children. his ex-wife was taken into custody. investigators are not saying why or how long they plan on holding her. neighbors say he was a creepy loner and not overtly religious. the truck he was driving was rented on july 11 raising the possibility this was a planned attack. at this point, investigators are looking to see if there are any indications if he was affiliated with any terror organization. so far, no organizations have stepped forward, but some social media accounts associated with isis have been applauding this attack so clearly, this is an area investigators will be looking at. >
