the des moines historical society is trying to save one of des moines oldest structures... it's one of the few structures that we still have in downtown des moines that actually reaches back to our ancestors. and we've lost so much already, and they continue to tear down those historic structures that give us that sense of place, that it's just hard to see the next one scheduled to go is the "burns united methodist church" along crocker street. the congregation moved to a new building 5 years ago because it was unable to afford the upkeep.
