i will talk about mercy des moines. it is a big place.we are responsible for about 11 other hospitals. we have about 13,000 employees. 650 employed positions across the state of iowa. there are multiple good systems in iowa, but integration is occurring. the market is driving this. our point is patients, providers, payers, and government need to be engaged together to achieve the triple aim of better care, lower-cost health care communities. our providers must demonstrate quality and efficiency. they need to use data. dr. brenner's comments are so pertinent. hospitals, providers, and government have not had data to make good decisions. we have been driven by a fee- for-service system. it is time to get rid of that. we must make sure we pay for value and not volume. that is the pertinent issue. how do we change our payment systems to incent us to do the right thing? we need to have the right incentives. patients must assume greater responsibility. they cannot do that on their own. they have to have the doctor brenner's of the world working

little girls and a boy, drowned in the iowa river in marshaltown, about 50 miles northwest of des moines. the children were swimming with a large group when they somehow became separated. >>> and on top of that, young swimmers out enjoying the holiday have been electrocuted in two different tragedies. in missouri, a girl and her brother were killed when racing off a dock. adults shut off the power and tried to rescue those two kids but it was too late. and in eastern tennessee, a boy swimming at a marina was electrocuted and another boy nearly died. the two were swimming between houseboats on cherokee lake. >> we believe that somehow or another, the electricity at that point got to the middle of the boat. and when the children touched the metal ladder to get in is when the e lech cushion au cured. >>> and we're learning more about a house explosion in new hampshire. an 8-month-old girl was among the injured. and a 2-year-old boy who was standing next to a box of fireworks when it exploded was severely burned. and is now in medically-indu medically-inducmedically-induce coma. >>> as many

louis to des moines. mid 90s in dixie and atlanta. if you look at the large heat bubble to the west, it continues to not really break much. we catch the edge here in maryland tomorrow. low 90s, maybe mid 90s in the heart of city. most of us will feel it either way. it will feel like the mid 90s, actually near 100. another poor air quality day. we had an ozone action day across the region. we may get a slight break wednesday with a back door front coming through. the chance for showers are slim. we picked up some good rain friday into saturday. that was absolutely needed precipitation. we are glad we got that. you can see more pop-up storms tomorrow. the computer models this part of the year estimate where the storms will crop up. it may be off. we may see them over the baltimore area tomorrow. as we go into wednesday, things look quieter, we get a boundary sinking through. this gives us a three, four, five agree cool down. overnight tonight, down to 74, a stray shower in the mix, maybe not much. tomorrow, it will be 94, sun and clouds

the peak of it today temperature-wise will be from minneapolis to des moines.ansas city, look at st. louis today, 105. 101 in chicago. so everyone here is seeing excessive heat with high humidity. that's why our heat index will be way high today. by the time we get to tomorrow, today's a hot day in the east, mid-90s, upper 90s. we could get more triple digits in areas around richmond, raleigh, washington, d.c. tomorrow. it's not like the heat wave's going anywhere any time soon, still very hot tomorrow in areas of the midwest too. the other concern today, we will have showers andstorms. light rain over areas of new england from portland to boston down to areas around connecticut and new york and philadelphia. you will see some showers out there this morning. we'll get a break during much of the day. then late this afternoon there's a trough in the area. that's just enough lift in the atmosphere we will get stray showers and storms. i don't think it's going to run the fireworks. many of those will be done by the time the sun sets. >>> coming up, crude creeps up.
