molly hunter is joining us from the french alps. good morning, molly. >> good morning, ryan.igators in germany where the co-pilot grew up are looking in to his family history, personal history, medical history, anything that might give investigators some clue as to why this young man, described as calm and responsible by people who knew him flew this plane in to the alps earlier this week. we know he passed his recent psychological exams. there were no red flags raised and know at this point, investigators don't expect any political or terror motives. >> molly, what kind of training did lubitz have? >> ryan, he had some of the best training in the industry. he trained in both germany and he trained in phoenix, arizona with lufthansa. he did take a break during that lufthansa training but lufthansa tells abc news the break in the training is fairly routine. it doesn't necessarily raise any red flag, and he came back to the training and passed with flying colors. his recent psychological exam was just in january. nothing unusual came out of that. >> molly, we can hear the helic

molly hunter is in the french alps where the recovery teams are back at work. good morning, molly.is morning, we are learning about a new report in the "new york times." they say yesterday's audio recording from the first black box indicates actually one of the pilots was locked out during the crucial eight-minute descent. the "times" quotes an official that said the other pilot was actually trying to smash down the door but didn't hear anything from the cockpit. abc news has not independently confirmed this report, but this certainly adds a new element of mystery to this mid-air disaster. here we are at the staging area in the alps. behind me the families of the 150 victims are here grieving, mourning. we know at least three americans were on board. ryan? >> thank you so much, molly. a harrowing story indeed. molly reporting there from the french alps. we are learning more this morning about 150 people lost in the crash. 17 nationalities in all. among the victims, more than 70 germans, 35 from spain and three americans, including a mother and daughter. here's abc's terry moran. >>

. >> team coverage beginning with molly hunter near the crash site. good morning, molly. already a very busy morning there. >> reporter: it is reena and ryan. helicopters are busy taking crews up to that crash site. but the overwhelming question on everyone's mind this morning is why. this morning an up close look as the grim work goes on. searchers looking for remains and clues on this steep treacherous slope. all that's left of germanwings flight 9525. officials say this man, 27-year-old co-pilot andreas lubitz locked 9 pilot out of the cockpit and deliberate flew the airbus into the ground. the cockpit voice recorder capturing it all. as it hits cruising altitude the captain asks lubitz to take control stepping out of the cockpit presumably to use the rest room lubitz resetting the autopilot beginning the deadly descent. the pilot frantically banging on the door 34r50eding to be let back into the cockpit. but there's no response. lubitz is heard breathing normally never speaking as the seconds tick by. the jet closes in on the mountains in full view of the passengers.

let's get right to molly. >> the opening statements expected in this trial the few hours from now dzhokhar tsarnaev the accused boston bomber will sit before 12 jurors and 6 ality malts over the up coming months. this trial has been delayed because of the historically bad winter we have had but also because of a jury selection process that is pain staking. so many have some personal connection to the bombing they knew someone injured or second level knew someone who knew someone. he con fired with his older brother to place the two bombs at the finish line of the 2013 boston marathon. the explosions killed three people, two young women and a child. it was later alleged they ambushed and murdered an mit police officer as well. tamer lynn's wife was never charged and they repeatedly denied they had no knowledge of the attack. she says she cooperated with the investigation. there's no word whether she is expected to testify. here's what people in boston are saying. >> i am not sure you are going to find anybody anywhere who hasn't heard about it, but will people try to listen to the evidence

molly is live outside and we are hearing more about the killing of that officer molly?reporter: absolutely john. jurors saw the autopsy photos of the officer in the trial of jahar tasarnaev. they showed the two brothers walking up to the cruiser and the final moments of the officer's life. collier was shot between the eyes at close range and head and right hand and the bullets were fired in rapid succession. and a dispatcher tried to send collier to the scene and he didn't respond and the sergeant was sent to the scene discovering him slumped over. >> oh, my goodness. all units respond. officer down, officer down. all units. get me. loekdz. officer down. >> that was the sergeant calling for help. and an ambulance arrived but collier's life could not be saved, jon. >> the young kidnapping vehicle as well testified today? >> absolutely. riveting testimony. he talked about how terrifying the ordeal. tamerlan came up to the the window and told him he had done the bombing and killed a police officer and the young man was terrified and in the whole world everyone was looking

thanks, molly.ice officers described the night that led to the death of tamerlan tsaranev. they said tamerlan and his brother, dzhokhar, were firing at them and throwing bombs. they described seeing dzhokhar run over his brother and drag his body about 30 feet. earlier, jurors saw the boat where dzhokhar was hiding at the time of his arrest. >>> a senior state department official has been arrested for stalking and voyeurism in d.c. daniel rosen is already facing a charge of soliciting an underaged girl for sex. police say they have evidence of rosen using his cell phone to record women while they undressed in their homes. the evidence was discovered after his arrest last month. the women in the videos do appear to be 18 or older. >>> record high temperatures in the plains states have produced a spike in wildfires. the mercury reached the 80s and 90s yesterday near omaha. this highway had to be closed because of smoke and flames. and further south, in northern oklahoma, a blaze consumed 23,000 acres.

molly line is live in boston covering the case and has more for us. molly?> reporter: jenna, this morning the jurors in the tsarnaev trial went on this rather unusual field trip to actually see the boat where the accused boston marathon bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev was captured days later this. was on very high security. state police fbi u.s. marshals all present for this. tsarnaev was there as well. he could be seen relatively close to the boat in this warehouse under a white pop-up tent a pretty different view from what he last saw that boat which is the slipaway ii. jurors spent half an hour viewing the boat littered with bullet holes. pool reporters alongside counted at least 110 bullet holes. one piece of tape with the number 207 was visible. a forklift gave jurors a two by two, a debris ridden where the messages still scrawled by tsarnaev watched. the pool reporters described one of the defendant. >> occasionally rubbed his hands for warmth. kept his hands in his pockets a bunch of of the time but looked as placid as he has most of the trial, rather uninvo
