we'll just have to see. >> molly, part of the skepticism is because of the power of the nra.t has been their reaction to what does seem to be an invigorated movement on the gun control side? >> the nra's strategy always is to just sort of wait these things out, and that's been very effective, because it's not that politicians fear they will pay a price if they do something. it's they've never paid a price for not doing anything. so the gun control activism, which i've followed for many years, can have a hopeless quality to it because they do keep sort of running at the target and falling short, particularly after sandy hook. two things i see changing with this particular movement. one, it's put this issue on the front burner within the democratic party. this is now something that democrats are running on very strongly. they've really taken ownership of this issue as a party with, of course, some exceptions a s maybe some of the red states. second of all, the way this aligns the gun issue specifically with the youth vote. if we see strong turnout in a midterm, which is unusual

molly, good to have you back with us. all of this has played back overseas as we just heard from kelly. but let's talk about the surprise announcement and how likely it's going to play out on capitol hill. you know, there has been a bit of a surprise, if you will, in terms of how quickly this developed according to the "new york times" reporting overnight. >> absolutely. i mean, you can see that. i'm looking at my iphone right now, which is usually broing up with e-mails, especially from lawmakers who react to this kind of news. and there really isn't very much, aside from bob corker who is the chairman of the foreign relations committee in the senate who said, you know, we feed to be cautious and was -- i don't think he used the word optimistic, but, you know, was looking forward to these talks. the problem is is that congress is just tot being kept in the loop when it comes to things like this and when it came to the tariffs decision. you can see lawmakers being back on their heels when you have such blow back, especial

molly is a hundred percent right. you are already seeing reports come out that say donald trump doesn't think that rick saccone is a good candidate knno matter what he says. molly mentioned alabama in southwestern pennsylvania district that donald trump owned by 22 points, alabama obviously extenuating cirques and the reason it is a special election is because congressman tim murphy add sex scandal. yes, extenuating circumstances. but you aren't talking about areas that are even marginal. alabama is one of the five most conservative state in the country. this area. unopposed in 2014 by democrat, unimposed in 2016 by democrat. there is a reason for that. there's just not that many democrats in that area any more. the area that the fact that saccone is in trouble, and donald trump no matter what he says about rick saccone, bad candidate, went way down to almost winning. i don't know if it is primarily. but donald trump is a factor in this race that it is even close. >> i think the alarming prospect is what he he raised
