molly henneberg joins us live from the white house. , molly, what do we expect today from the president? >> reporter: hi, patti ann, the president was supposed to come back to d.c. after the new year. as you were saying he's en route from hawaii to washington for any last-minute fiscal cliff talks. he left his wife and two daughters in hawaii when he left last night hawaii time. he has been in touch with harry reid's office over the holidays and we did get a scheduled update that the vice president will be here at the white house today for meetings. at this point not a lot of encouraging signs coming out of the white house or capitol hill that a fiscal cliff deal is in sight. patti ann: are there any other meetings set with house republicans? >> reporter: nothing yet, although that can change. we do know that house republican speaker john boehner is still in his home state of ohio. his spokesman says he'll update if there are any travel changes, meaning he'll let us know if the speaker decides to come become to washington for any kind o

molly henneberg is following the story and joins us live here in washington with more. molly. >> hi, shannon. the fiscal cliff talk has quieted down in washington in viewft connecticut school shooting there are still negotiations going on quietly behind the scenes. president obama has rejected the republicans most recent proposal at least for now. republicans offered a deal that would raise taxes on americans making over $1 million a year. in exchange for deeper spending cuts. that was a no-go for president obama. he wants to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000. house speaker john boehner offered the latest proposal on friday showing some flexibility within the g.o.p. on tax hikes. republicans say the country has to get spending under control. in order to get the national debt under control. especially when it comes to entitled spending on things like medicare and social security. boehner has previously proposed increasing the eligibility age for medicare and lowering cost of living adjustments for social security. house republicans say they're hopeful. >> he

molly henneberg joins us. what is the background to this mystery. >> reporter: navy owe eugs figureseofficials say we do have allies in the region that use these type of drones, the united arab emirates and kuwait. iran did not say when or where it captured the scan eagle just that it entered iranian air space. we don't have a lot of information besides that. we do know that the navy did lose one of these scan eagle drones back in october, but naval officials say that it went down in the persian gulf, that it broke apart as these drones are designed to do, and that they believe it sank into the persian gulf. jenna. jenna: so, if the iranians do indeed have this unmanned aerial vehicle, what type of information can they get from it? >> reporter: it's a low-cost, low tech drone. basically it's a camera that can transmit pictures via radio waves. it is possible the iranians can get information about what the drone was trying to look at based on its location. that's about it. it's not as nearly sophisticated as th

martha: molly henneberg is live.th koreans may have run into a snag with this launch plan which may be biding some time. what can you tell us about it? >> reporter: martha, a weather snag. snow may have slowed north korea's efforts to put the missile together on the launch pad although the latest satellite pictures suggest it may be ready for liftoff if they decide to go ahead with it on monday. it appears all three parts of the rocket are mounted on the launch pad. north korea has tried four times since 1998 to launch a three stage rocket successfully but have been unsuccessful at it. officials say the north koreans gain more information each time they try. north korean leader kim jong-un believed to want to try the launch over next couple weeks because in part because the anniversary of his father's death falls into that time frame. mortgage that. martha: we know our u.s. navy has been mobilizing to that region in preparation for this and ahead of this. what do we know about our assets there? >> reporter: two divid
