molly henneberg live on capitol hill. molly, it appears that would have been an easy one for them to take on, but what happened? >> they're not going to take it up, at least until next monday. the senate has adjourned for the weekend without voting on that bill that you were talking about that passed the house unanimously earlier today. it was a bill that would authorize back pay for furloughed federal workers. the top senate democrat said he thought that kind of legislation was an absurd way to handle a shutdown. >> so now what the republicans in the house are telling -- 'cause they're the ones that set the agenda, but they're it willing all these federal workers, what we're going to do for you now, even though we don't like federal workers and we haven't given awe raise in three years, what we're going to do now is give you a paid vacation. that's what it is. these people who want to go to work can't go to work. >> republicans see this legislation and other bills passed by the house largely along party lines this week to

molly henneberg has the latest on what is going on there. molly?we haven't seen much publicly from hillary clinton since she stepped down as secretary of state back in february. but today he is will endorse a long-time clinton ally, gubernatorial candidate for virginia terry mcauliffe. the name may sound familiar to her. mcauliffe was the chairman of the secretary clinton 2008 presidential campaign and one of the cochair of former president bill clinton 1996 re-election campaign. hillary clinton already hosted and will host more rundraisers for mcauliffe. according to mcauliffe's wife, speaking about the event today, dorothy says our good friend hillary clinton will join to us raise awareness of how important is it for virginia women to get out and vote for terry in this election. the republican candidate for governor of virginia is ken cuccinelli, the current attorney general of the state. he will campaign if virginia today with someone else who also run for president. former arkansas governor mike huckabee, now a fox news host. cuccinelli a long-

molly henneberg leading our coverage on that today, thanks. jamie? >> the much-heralded traffic on the health care website appears to fallen off a cliff. week one was big, 1.9 million consumers visiting the site. after that the site saw 88% decline, 8%! just 36,000 consumers signed up the first week. that's all. far from the administration's october prediction of half a million enrollment. so experts are saying only the government could weather such a slow start. >> just imagine a business who just put so much hype into a new product, saying to consumers this will change their entire lives. this will fix many of the problems that they have. hyped it up so much and there is a complete letdown. they would have a real problem surviving in the marketplace. >> at the white house they're calling for people, bill, to be patient. bill: good luck with that. adding insult to injury the department responsible for launching obamacare, actually spent $56 million on conferences alone last year. health and human services department spent hundreds of thousands of do

molly henneberg has details from washington for us now. molly? >> reporter: jenna, jon, good morning. more than a dozen insurance companies are telling "the wall street journal" that they're seeing a lot of errors in the information they're receiving from the obamacare online exchanges and these companies are having to spend extra time and resources following up with potential customers to try to find out who is really trying to enroll. specifically, aetna, blue cross-blue shield of nebraska and priority health in michigan say they're getting applications with information missing. they're getting multiple applications from the same people. they're getting applications that list spouses as children. the ceo of aetna told the paper, quote, the longer this takes to resolve the harder it will be to get people to come back an sign up. it is not off to a great start. the white house says, they're working on it. >> the people who are responsible for making it work are hard at work fixing problems that need to be fixed and that is the focus of the presid

molly henneberg live in d.c. with more on the story. >> reporter: hi, jenna. here is what is comes down to congress controls the money for the city of washington d.c. locally elected leaders in this very blue democratic city are pressing president obama and senate democrats to loosen those purse strings during the shutdown. specifically, they want the president to withdraw his veto threat of a house bill that would allah d.c. to use its tax money as generated by people who live in d.c. to fund city operations, even while the federal government is shut down. and that is what prompted non-voting delegate, eleanor holmes norton to take on the president yesterday, interrupting him a few times we're told to make her case. holmes tells fox, the president's point of view i had to take issue with. the city is running out of its contingency funds. d.c. mayor, democrat vincent gray, also took up the cause yesterday on the steps of the capitol with senate democratic leader harry reid. gray pushed reid to spend d.c. its own tax money, which is not tax mon which reid had q
