nbc's molly hunter spoke with a good samaritan who was the first to arrive at that scene. good morning to you that's right that's an extraordinary story. he was on a boat with his wife, in the right place at the right time after speaking with investigators he spoke exclusively to nbc news. >> it was shocking to see an airplane hit the water that hard and rip the floats off and turned upside-down and sink. i wasn't sure anybody was ever even going to get off that. >> reporter: retired fish mer chuck and his wife were ou on the water when two planes collided watching in horror as one of the planes went down nearly in the inland within minutes he alerted the coast guard and jumped into action a man on a solo rescue mission. >> i got in close and i saw people bobbing all over the place. i didn't know how many and then they -- they had seen me and one lady -- help, help. >> reporter: he tried to get people to hold on to his small skiff. >> you kind of are just running on autopilot at that point i didn't really think anything other than i was just trying to get the people out of

nbc's molly hunter tells us about her incredible story of survival. >> she's alive! hallelujah!n maui. >> it's just unbelievable. i'm so incredibly happy to have my girl back. >> reporter: this morning a woman who was missing since she set off an a hike more than two weeks ago is safe and sound, reuniteid with her friends and family. 35-year-old amanda eller a yoga instructor and physical therapist disappeared on may 8th after going on a walk in the woods. when she didn't come home, her boyfriend called police fearing the worst. >> i'm hoping that she did not arrive i knew something was wrong. >> reporter: police found her white suv with a wallet and phone inside in maui. but after 72 hours police called off the search. still her friends and family didn't give up and her family offered up $50,000 for her return. search parties combed the area by land and air. >> we felt strongly she was in the forest from the get-go. >> reporter: and late friday they spotted her deep in the forest as they flew over maui in a helicopter. >> we're all looking down at the same time and at the same

nbc's molly hunter has the latest on this crash good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that's right two people were killed in this latest crash, a pilot and a passenger, and the plane involved is owned by the exact same company that was involved in last week's midair collision. once again ntsb investigators will try to piece together what happened overnight, another deadly float plane crash in alaska. the pilot and one passenger on a commuter flight killed after a seaplane known as a beaver crashed off a net island in southern alaska. the small plane operated by taquan air still intact. you can see it floating offshore, upside down, mostly submerged after the crash, the pontoons still attached. good samaritans arriving, using their fishing boat to drag the plane to the beach volunteer rescue squads and the fire department took the victims to shore but they didn't survive. the coast guard saying the circumstances of the crash are not being released at this time and they are not identifying the victims. the crash happening 20 miles from last week's deadly midair collision
