i had my mom but that was my wife, she was my one. so it woke me up and let me know, okay, you have to get yourself together because you are going home at some point in your life. so i started doing -- the guy asked me to do challenge, i decided, okay, i will try and it kind of -- it really changed my life because i thought people didn't want to hear my story, the younger guys, you had guys coming in there 15, 16 with life sentences and they did, they we wanted to hear my story and it actually made me a better person. so i continued to write the book and started making plans of when i got out, i wanted -- i knew i wanted something different. i knew i didn't want to come back again. i had a lot of support through my time of being in there. one is my sister right here, she was with me every step of the way, my mom, my grandmother, she passed maybe the first year that i went in. and that kind of -- that was a big piece of my life that was -- she was everything, i knew i could fend -- depend on her for whatever i needed, once she was gone

told me that he hated it and he threw it away, then called my mom back and my mom said, well, he's injail, so how far could he have thrown it? and so just is the drama of my life, and -- and about a week later, my brother called and apparently had fished the page outs of the garbage can and read it and he was crying and he really loved it, called my mom, apologized, and then for probably the next 15 months, i got collect calls from guys in jail who read the book, and called their mother and loved it, and they all said, the thing -- number one thing i like but your book it doesn't have any big words, and my mom is like, you can't write; and so complicated. and yet at the same time, the book kind of just keeps going on and on. it's ban question on the s.a.t.s, it's taught as a companion piece for a tree grows in brooklyn, and it's a book -- it's a simple book without a lot of big words that nobody in my family really thinks is worth the paper it's printed on.
