monique griego? >> reporter: he killed his wife kristine, but without a body there wasn't much they or police could do about it. a howard county home with a disturbing secret hidden under a shed for 21 years and it would take help his second wife to help the mystery of his first wife, missing since 1991. >> she was fun, vivacious, full of life. >> reporter: not long after christine disappeared, saw concrete pouring in the shed but never had enough evidence to get a search warrant and while the case went cold, neighbor's suspicions never did. one determined detective never gave up and found out jared separated from the second wife and moved out of the house, detectives moved in and asked to search the shed. there, they found christine's remains under floor boards. they were 5 and 11 at the time and thought their dad killed their mom. one lives in the neighborhood, but we were unable to reach him for a comment. >> reporter: i comment -- i tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. >> reporter: the boy

monique griego reports. >> reporter: 8:30 last night massive flames filled the sky over canton after a three alarm fire breaks out at a warehouse. >> it was flames everywhere, it started in one part and it started escalating and escalating. it went through the whole entire building it was pretty, it was epic. >> reporter: nearly 50 firefighters were called in to battle the flame. heavy smoke forced 50 residents to evacuate their homes. about 1,500 homes also lost power thanks to down power lines and a down transformer. firefighters were also concerned on what was on the inside. chemicals used in the company. it would take three hours for firefighters to finally get the upper hand on the flames. the entire roof of the front portion of the building collapsed. hazmat teams from the maryland department of environment will now team up to evaluate any hazardous chemicals left behind. as for neighbors they're praising the fire department who stopped flames from spreading to near by homes. >> reporter: the cause of the fire is still under investigation. reporting from canton, monique griego.

[ applause ] >> bandaged but not broken. volunteer firefighter, kevin o'toole, walked out of the washington center. to a heroes welcome. >> it's actually the first time i'm out of the hospital. so it's a really good feeling. >> reporter: it was just two months ago, when the fire nearly claimed his life. >> all units. 63, 34. 57th avenue. evacuate the building. >> reporter: february 24th, the fire breaks out of a vacant home in riverdale. when o'toole and others come in, high winds. and there was a fire ball. o'toole suffered burns to over 50% of his body. he still find its hard to talk about. >> i'd rather not talk about that day. >> o'toole has endured countless surgeries and skin grafts. >> there's no time to think, am i going to make it or not. no, i kept fighting the good fight. >> reporter: the cause is found to be arson

mary, back to you. >> monique, thank you. drought watch coverage continues. meteorologist tim williams and bob turk have more on the desperate need for more rain. bob? >> and wjz drought watch continues to track those rainfall totals. take a look first of all, at our drought index. this is put out by the national weather service. you can still see that most of maryland, at least from the bay east is in the moderate or severe drought. that's based on amount of rainfall and water on the ground. to the west of us, still called abnormally dry. the amount of rain we saw yesterday, really did nothing to help the drought. puit did wet things down. take a look at numbers. and nobody really got more than a quarter of an inch, as you can see. columbia, frederick, bel air and towson. at the airport, officially, only 16/100ths of anich. hopefully we'll get more this weekend. we could see at least that much or more maybe in some areas. it's been a mild afternoon. tim has a look at some of the temperatures and what's on tap for the end of the week. tim? >> temperatures hav
