nbc10's monique braxton is on the scene right now. monique, what you can tell us at this point? >> reporter: chris, we arrived here about five minutes ago. i just learned from investigators that one firefighter was injured. they do believe he suffered a burn on his wrist but no one was injured inside of this home. investigators are saying they're checking on the possibility that squatters are here inside. and they also learned that there's an illegal electrical hookup in the rear of the home but they don't know if it's an electrical fire. so they're investigating several different angles. you can see a dozen firefighters still on the scene. but the fire was called about 4:00 a.m. this morning. it took them about 19 minutes to bring the blaze under control. no billowing smoke here. no heavy flames at this point. but police are investigating along with firefighters that squatters were possibly here inside this vacant home. that's the latest for now, we're going to continue to monitor this investigation. any breaking details you can count on nbc10 to bring it to you. live for now i

monique, what's happening right now?reporter: tracy, we have just learned from the philadelphia water department who has just arrived back on scene that an eight-inch water main has broken. you see them, they're getting ready to dig now to go down into the ground and possibly cut off, choke off the source of this water supply. residents tell us they were awakened at about 5:30 this morning. and what they found was no water at all. about 12 homes are affected on this block of gillespie. we're at the corner of gillespie and robin. you can see a few homes and the third house here, on the left-hand side, water is just coming out of the sidewalk from underground. that may be the source is of that it eight-inch main. right now, we don't know when water going to be restored to the 12 customers on this block. we can tell you from midway up there is just low water pressure. we're going to monitor the situation and keep you posted throughout the morning. live for now from tacony. monique braxton, "nbc10 news." >>> more now on a de

and that's where nbc 10's monique braxton is live. monique, police released the video and quickly, a number of tips came in, is that right? >> reporter: that's right, vai. police tell us that their phones have been ringing off the hook here at central detectives. they also say they believe more than a dozen people seen here are responsible for what they're calling a hate crime. now, this is the video given to detectives here at central division. police say this video was captured thursday night before the attack and robbery of a gay couple. investigators tell us they have been flooded with tips from people who know these potential suspects. according to investigators, someone in this group asked the two men if they were a couple. when they answered yes, the vicious attack occurred. look at the injury to one victim. both were treated and released from a local hospital. they spoke with us at that point. witnesses told us this couple was beaten badly before the group fled north on 16th street towards walnut. investigators also say someon

nbc 10 monique braxton is live with more on the subway threat. monique, you've been talking to drivers all morning. what are they saying? >> they notice additional police presence. we have been here, tracy, since well before 5:00 this morning th when trains started rolling. we have some video for you. this is all due to an announcement by iraq's prime minister. he tells us there is an imminent plan by isis militants to attack american and french subway systems. however, u.s. officials are disputing the credibility of that threat. so, we check with leaders locally, who say there is no evidence our region would be a target. but septa is airing on the side of caution, making sure they've got additional boots on the ground. we set out to talk to commuters. >> well, i'll always be concerned about it because of the heightened awareness dealing with terrorism acts and things like that. just good to be aware and know that we're stepping up to make sure a presence is felt to make everyone feel secure. >> i don't necessarily believe there is going to be a

nbc 10's monique braxton has been monitoring developments in this story all morning long. she's standing by live in the digital operations center. monique, at this point, authorities have not named a specific suspect or even a person of interest. >> right now we are awaiting the latest update from pennsylvania state police, but i can tell you that police officers from several different agencies, including federal offices, are now part of a nonstop search for the gunmen or gunman who killed corporal brian dixon. it happened during an ambushing outside the police barracks. as we show you our video, let me recap for you what we've learned from state police. we've been told that dixon and another trooper were ambushed friday night outside the barracks in a rural part of pike county. dixon died at the scene. trooper alex douglas underwent surgery and is now listed in critical but stable condition. we went along with police from three states as they stopped cars in an effort to make sure no stone was left unturned. investigators tell us they've issued a high alert to other offic

nbc 10's monique braxton is live outside central detectives. tell us more, monique. >> reporter: tracy, attorneys representing the three suspects you're speaking about say in the next hour or so, they should arrive here at central detectives. now, the suspects allegedly attacked a gay couple earlier this month. d.a. seth williams approved arrest warrants yesterday against three people seen in this surveillance video that not only went viral but helped detectives identify the suspects. d.a. williams says 24-year-old philip williams, 26-year-old kevin harrigan and 24-year-old katherine knott, all from bucks county, attacked a gay couple here at 16th and chancellor. the trio is now charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and conspiracy. >> not everyone was involved in the situation, so it was one of those things of getting everyone in, questioning everyone, interviewing and talking to a number of different witnesses and anybody who was possibly there during this incident and sorting out and weeding out who was invol

monique braxton is live at the scene. what's happening there right now? >> reporter: we learned a second school has closed for the school next are closed because of the billowing smoke that continues over west condition sing tkensi after the fire began. three people were injured in the early morning place that lit up the sky over west kensington. two firefighters suffered minor injuries and are in stable condition. a third victim was seen fleeing the building on fire. 80% of that person's body is burned. >> the cause is undetermined. we have the fire marshal out. we have l and i. >> reporter: investigate erdz s say it started in a vacant warehouse. it took close to two hours to bring the inferno under control. the salvation army arrived to keep firefighters hydrated and give them a place to rest. throughout the morning, firefighters continued to pour water on the hot spots. septa buss were detoured. parents had to walk several blocks around hoses and ladder trucks. usually this is how many blocks? >> about six, seven bloc

monique braxton is live at city hall. what's happening out there?reporter: just before council went into session, i did speak with the co-sponsored of the bill, and they told us that they do feel they have support for the measure. they also said, this adds sexual orientation to the hate crime in the city but it add different groups of people. both acknowledge today's move follows the arrest of three bucks county residents on charges including aggravated assault and recklessly endangering a gay couple. the three were seen on surveillance videotape with a group of people near the scene of the attack. they were identified by people who know them as well as the victims. one suffered extensive injuries. both have been treated and released. >> it sends a clear signal that that conduct is unacceptable, the city is not going to tolerate it not just for those who have a different sexual orientation but those who suffer from disabilities because those typ types are not covered. these are in one package to protect those citizens as well. >> reporter: the measu

monique braxton joins us live from willow grove where volunteers are getting ready. i've done this a couple times. it's a huge event. >> reporter: it's huge. i wouas here last year when the kicked off. the excitement is filling the air a couple hours before sunrise. check out volunteers preparing here. they've been here for more than two hours and in minutes, they're going to begin assembling around the stage. this is what the scene will look like in the next 30 minutes or so. a sea of pink. the susan g. komen three-day fund-raiser begins at 7:00. walkers will cover 60 miles across philadelphia leaving in montgomery county. they have trained for four to six months. each person who will be walking has raised about $2,300. we're told last year the walkers raised just in philadelphia alone $3.2 million. so the volunteers are here setting up welcoming participants. participants will then assemble around the stage in the next 30 minutes or so. we'll be here and have it for you live. from willow grove mall, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> an airplane like you have never s

nbc 10 monique braxton is live with more on the subway theft. septa isn't taking any chances. >> that's right, tracy. just moments ago, the regional rail train pulled out of this fernrock station and we noticed an additional presence of police on it. look at the video we have for you. we captured some of septa police force. their 265 police are being reinforced by philadelphia officers. this is part of the increased police presence now in place due to an announcement by iraq's prime minister. he says there's an imminent plan to attack american and french subway systems. however, u.s. officials are telling us no credible information about that threat. local leaders say there is no evidence our region would be a target. but septa is beefing up patrols with additional boots on the ground. we went out to see what's on the mind of commuters who ride the rails daily. >> the increased police presence. did you notice any additional police riding? >> yes. >> where were they? >> inside the train and on the platform. >> your thoughts about that? >> always
