monique braxton is live in the olney section of philadelphia now. monique? >> reporter: we arrived here 15 minutes ago and this is what we found. a ford escape overturned in the middle of the block. we are at the intersection of fisher and front. this is a major thoroughfare for folks headed to work this morning. i just spoke to police and they said the drivers in their early 20s. the car overturned after hitting the parked car, the nissan you see here to the left on the screen. they say that she has been taken to einstein medical center to be evaluated. when i asked what was the cause of the accident the police told us they are still investigating. but if you zoom in a little bit, my photographer here is showing you that a lot of debris has come from inside the ford escape. there is a coffee cup there, i see one of her shoes there, i see a couple of bottles of -- empty bottles of gatorade and orange juice. so no doubt this investigation is still underway but i can tell you that this part of fisher is on lockdown by police while the investigation continues.

monique braxton is live with an update. monique? >> reporter: two men got into a fight and both were stabbed but one has died. you can see the scene is marked off with police tape. in the far distance you see forensic services unit. i want you to pay special attention to the yellow cones at the trail of them that mark evidence leading down into the plant. now, sky force 10 was over the scene shortly after the incident at 8:00 this morning. we have one video a person being air lifted to paoli and another taken to landsdale hospital. when i asked the assistant attorney, he declined comment which died. one is considered to be the sole suspect. he's in surgery and police are guarding him. >> there was a knife involved and the knife was recovered. so we're processing the scene at this point. there's a lot of work still to do on the investigation. >> now according to the company's website, this is jbs, the former meat packing plant. they are considered a world leader in producing animal protein. an employee on sight tells us they process

our monique braxton is at police headquarters gathering information. monique, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, tracy. we were at another homicide scene before we arrived here at police headquarters just moments ago. detectives are now back here inside this building after spending several hours at a double homicide scene in grays ferry. take a look at the video we captured overnight. we were steps away from the scene here at 27th & latona when forensic investigators arrived. police say two men, both 23, were shot and killed. one was shot in the chest and arm. the second man was shot in his head, leg and torso. now, investigators also tell us at the scene, they marked at least nine casings fired from a .9-millimeter weapon. >> we know there's two weapons involved. one left the spent shell casings on the street and the second weapon is the one we found on our 23-year-old victim who was shot in the head. and it's unknown until we examine that revolver. it's ub known whether or not that revolver was fired. >> reporter: about 1 1/2 blocks away we were with the forensic unit when the

live for now from the northeast, monique braxton, "nbc 10 news." >>> thank you, monique. the icy winter we have had is causing big problems on local rivers and bays especially for people who go between new jersey and delaware via the cape may ferry. matt delucia is live in camden along the delaware river for us that leads into the bay. matt, is it just the cold weather causing the issues or something else? >> reporter: it's a combination vai. first you have the cold weather we have experienced the past few weeks. then the tides on top of that can make things worse. and that affects the river here and down in the delaware bay. what you get is called ice stacking. that's more prominent down there in the bay. the delaware river authority is trying to handle the ice the past couple of weeks. about a dozen trips have been canceled the past ten days and it's been about a decade since that has happened according to the operators. the ice got stuck in the ferry's thruster systems earlier this week. so a tough time indeed out there. now the coast guard was out here on the delaware

our monique braxton is live on scene where bullet casings litter the ground. monique, what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi i arrived here just before the top of the hour. i've had a chance to talk to both crime scene investigators as well as detectives. they tell us about 2:30 this morning, there was gunfire here in the middle of the 2700 block of latona. they say two men have passed away. according to what we were able to notice at the scene, there were about nine markings for shell casings. i did ask what type of weapons they believe were used. i was told that a .9-millimeter gun, at least one, was used in the double shooting. it happened here in the middle of the street. investigators have just cleared the scene. the forensic unit has just departed the scene. but they tell us at this point, there is no suspect in custody. so they will be scouring the area looking for surveillance video cameras. they'll also be talking to any witnesses who heard and saw what happened here at about 2:30 this morning. but for now, two men are dead. both 23 years of age. shot

a live look now at the house fire in bucks county hulmeville what can you tell us monique? >> reporter: we arrived here 15 minutes ago and i just spoke to the fire chief here. he tells us to take a look at this utility home. this is in the 200 block of pennsylvania after. that then caught fire. the fire then was located on the backside and there was extensive damage to the back. some of it damaged the front room to the kitchen area as well, so the house is uninhabitable at this point. what they are still investigating is what caused the utility candle to catch fire. the city has come through to put sand and salt down but we are watching on a seat of ice as they put the efforts under control. but for now, two people safe able to escape the blaze here in the 200 block of pennsylvania avenue. firefighters are now exiting the scene and they tell us it remains under investigation. i'm monique braxton for "nbc 10 news." >>> we continue to follow breaking news from west philadelphia. look at this live picture of a serious accident involving a taxi. you can see the taxi there just

monique, tell us. >> reporter: hi vai.s the council members arrive on the fourth floor of city hall to go into executive session, caucus and then open session, the advocate for paid sick day staged a press conference with hopes of getting an ear. if council votes in favor of paid sick days businesses would be required to offer one day for every 40 hours worked. workers would accrue up to five days per year. this affects companies with at least ten employees. though the chamber of commerce has still been pushing for a 15 minimum limit. those with less than ten workers would be required to offer unpaid sick days. here's the last minute push by proponents as council members arrived at city hall. >> paid sick days are important for working families in pennsylvania and in philadelphia. 40% of all workers have no access to earn sick time. >> just great to finally be here when it looks like it is now going to drn we're now going to have paid sick leave. we had starts and stops over time. >> reporter: and for that reason, council

nbc 10's monique braxton is live on the scene.know monique, a short time ago, it looked like water was gushing everywhere. any improvement out there yet? >> improvement greatly, rosemary. i just got off the phone with the philadelphia water department, and he told us they were able to shut off the part that actually broke. it was a 12-inch water main break. these about 100 customers at one point were affected. look at this video of water just gushing out. just before 2:00 this morning. you can see that there are about half a dozen men on the scene, quickly working to shut off that broken main. right now, back out here live, they have been successful at shutting off the break, but they're digging deep now into the ground to repair. i was just told that all 100 customers that were affected should have water at this point. but many of them slept throughout the night, not knowing they were without water for about four hours. we're going to continue to monitor the scene, but right now, the good news to report to you, it looks like not

we'll get back to monique in a few minutes. but when it is cold outside and this cold there's a danger to all of us but especially for seniors. there's a greater risk of cold-related injuries to them and death. katy zachry is live at the older adults center in philadelphia. what are some of the best ways to keep seniors safe in this bitter cold? >> reporter: vai, we talked to doctors and nurses in addition to the frigid temperatures and if seniors go outside, they need to layer up and cover every area of your body. the reason is they don't have the body fat they did when younger. and let's face it the body fat will help to keep us warm. seniors are inside their homes. how warm should it be there? it is recommended their thermostat is set to 68 degrees. anything cooler than that could be dangerous for older adults and seniors. 68 degrees could be on the warmer side to many of us but it is not for the older population. unfortunately, this time of the year we see many seniors and older adults keeping the thermostat much lower beca

nbc 10's monique braxton is live at cooper university hospital with new details on how mrs. sheraton died. what can you tell us? >> reporter: until now, you're talking about five months no one revealed how the former ceo of this hospital and his wife died. but one piece of evidence is now public. we knew someone killed joyce sheraton last september. but this morning, the attorney general confirmed that sheraton was stabbed to death. her aorta was punctured. how her husband john died has not been released. we captured this video outside their somerset county new jersey, home in september. both were found unresponsive during a fire. the couple's four children other relatives, and associates have all been questioned. but right now, no suspect has been named. and just moments ago, the hospital told us they declined comment on this development in the case. sheraton then cooper's ceo, was also very active in new jersey politics. his wife had been a teacher. we're going to continue to monitor developments and have any new information for you on nbc10.com and as well as the nbc 10 n

nbc 10's monique braxton is live in lindenwold with more information. >> reporter: i just arrived on the scene. you can see that the power company is shutting off the electricity to the units that were damaged by the blaze. this happened about 3:30 this morning. firefighters were called here to this garden style apartment complex in lindenwold. the cause of the fire they don't know. but at one point, firefighters were pulled from the dwelling because, as you2can see, the roof was collapsing. we've checked with the fire department. they tell us that no one was injured. >> when we pulled up we had fire through the roof at this time. eclipsing the four units involved and naturally the cold and the ice play a part in putting it out. luckily the winds have died down so that was a contributing factor. >> now looking at the structure you can see up on the top right-hand side still a lot of smoke. firefighters are there dousing the hot spots. we'll reach out to some of the residents as well as talk to the american red cross to get a better idea of what exactly happened about 3 o 30:30 this m
