nbc 10's monique braxton is live on scene where she's been talking to the owners of the cars that wereaged. monique, tell us more. >> tracy, we've learned in all, four cars and one utility truck were damaged by this out-of-control honda accord. witnesses tell us the car that caused the destruction here on unruh was speeding before crashing here at tackawanna and unruh. take a look at the surveillance video that captured this entire situation. one family shared this with us. they also have a vehicle damaged. we did find the first person who had her car a chevrolet impala hit and that kind of then spiraled out of control for the rest of them. cindy joins us now. you didn't hear it coming? >> no, i didn't. >> how did you find out? >> my neighbors came to wake us up. >> your car has been moved to make way for them removing the car that caused all this destruction. what do you think about this? when you came outside and saw this what were your thoughts? >> is this real? is this really happening? this isn't something you normally see, a car upside down my car totally damaged. >> how much dam

"nbc 10's" monique braxton is lif at the special victim's unit. tell us what we know monique. >> reporter: hey there, tracy. investigators are also issuing an alert this morning for any females who go to work before sun sunrise. here's what they tell us. a 20-year-old said last friday she was snatched off a fish town street and sexually assaulted. svu investigators believe that victim was forced into this mini van you see here captured by a surveillance camera in the 2000 block of east york street. police want you to take a look at this 1990s dodge or chris lore mini van. they believe it was driven by the sexual predator. the victim helped the police with the sketch of her attacker. she also told police he pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at her, then forced her into the mini van. >> he drove her to an unknown location forced her to undress, point of gun, and then she was sexually assaulted. she was inside the van with the male for about an hour. >> reporter: now the victim also told police she was released ten blocks away near boston and al

live for now from conshohocken monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> thanks monique. from our jersey shore bureau investigators there are looking into a fire that gutted a popular boardwalk shop just one week before the unofficial start of summer. flames ripped through the seventh street surf shop in ocean city last night. we first told you about this fire through a push alert on our nbc 10 news app. the blaze broke out around 8:00. crews had it out in less than an hour. one worker managed to escape safely. >> i've been a part of this place for 10 or 11 years now and worked here every summer so it's tough to see. >> the hard part with boardwalk businesses right now, they're all loading up for the holiday weekend, so there's a lot of merchandise in there that's obvious destroyed at this point, but also fuels the fire. >> firefighters say neighboring businesses sustained some smoke damage. employees tell us that the surf shop will reopen. >>> amtrak crews are coming off another night of work to restore service between philadelphia and new york by tuesday, which would be

"nbc 10's" monique braxton joins us live from area health frankford. nique, that was one of the hospitals treating people with serious injuries. do you have any updates for us this morning? >> reporter: this is one of six 4079s. just moments ago we saw some of the patients huddled together inside the lobby. we're outside aria health frankford campus. the nursing supervisor told us about 2 dozen amtrak passengers are here. our camera was rolling when they arrived. most told the doctors they were in the first three cars. they're suffering from internal bleeding concussions and broken bones. i spoke to one of the passengers who suffered a broken leg. he told us he's in a lot of pain. he also said the derailment was frightening and it was very dark. since our last report we've learned aria torresdale has 50 patients. a spokesperson from jefferson told us they're treating two patients in the e.r. two dozen others have been admitted. also temple's e.r. tells us they have more than 50 passengers from the derailed train and they're checking on their condition f

live for now in port richmond monique braxton, "nbc10 news" news. >>> it's 5:48. federal investigators say the deadly derailment could have been prevented by a sophisticated system of sensors on the rails and inside the engine car. the ntsb says the system is called positive train control, or ptc, if the train is going too fast the system warns the crew. and if the crew doesn't slow down the train, the computer activates the brakes. >> this is exactly the type of incident that ptc is trying to prevent. >> i'm working on rail safety. >> all u.s. railroads are required to install ptc by the end of this year but some lawmakers say the deadline won't be met and should be extended until 2020. some sections of the track along the northeast corridor do have ptc, but not in the area where the tuesday night crash happened. >>> in spite of that derailment some house members in washington voted to slash amtrak's budget. they voted to cut more than $250 million. 21 democrats on the panel voted against those cuts and saying they want to increase amtrak's spending by $1 billion

nbc10's monique braxton live for us at the command center with more on the injured. and what they're still going through more than 30 hours after the crash. >> reporter: hi chris, we have learned that some of the injured have contacted attorneys. as you look over my shoulder, you can see that the area is well lit. you can also see that the locomotive is still in place, also just around the bend here is where the other six cars sit overturned, some of their side have come to rest. let's take a look at the video from skyforce 10 the victims as you may recall, were resting when the train here sit the curve called frankford junction going more than 100 miles an hour. as you know trains do not have seat belts. yesterday, the mayor said it was miraculous that anyone survived this crash. here's what we've been able to find out nearly two dozen at temple. eight in critical condition, half a dozen in hahnemann. one in serious condition. and six are being treated at thomas jefferson hospital. so about three dozen or so hospitalized of the 243 on this deadly derailed train. so

let's check in now with nbc 10's monique braxton. s following this fire at this business in conshohocken. and monique, i understand you're waiting for an update from some of the firefighters and fire chiefs out there. >> reporter: that's right, rosemary. we've also been able to, since we last spoke to you, to walk around this massive attack on a fire at a floor company. and we have counted now six ladder trucks attacking the blaze from the air. we've also been able to talk to some of the people who live nearby who have gathered here at the scene. look at hour video now from early this morning. firefighters have been on the scene now for three hours. this three-alarm blaze taking place at the philadelphia floor company, a family-owned business owned for decades here in industrial park in conshohocken. now, initial reports of multiple explosions have not been confirmed. but we can tell you, some of the flooring products are highly flammable. that's why a lot of people have rushed to the scene, to wash the effort to fight the inferno. >>

monique braxton is live where the robbery suspect surrendered. tell us more. >> reporter: tracy, hasheem singletary is waking up in police custody after more than 24 hours of freedom. we will hear when he walked through those doors here at southwest detectives. our camera was rolling when singletary turned himself in to detectives. it happened just after midnight last night. police tell us singletary's family worked with them to make this happen to get the teen to turn himself in without risking an all out manhunt and forceful arrest. his brother tells us singletary and we're quoting here, was skairtd to death. he escaped from a rental car while he was in handcuffs. the car was used by a private prisoner transport company. singletary was on his way back from florida facing three armed robbery charges. he took off near 55th and cedar wednesday. his lawyer is happy this all ended peacefully. >> although he's a kid, 16 years old, he was smart enough to realize that this was the right thing to do and he did it. frankly he should be commended at least

"nbc 10's" monique braxton is live at the hospitals. what do you know from where you are? >> reporter: tracy, we have learned that about half a dozen patients have been huddled inside the lobby of the emergency room awaiting transportation to 30th street station. aria hospital received 75 patients. more than two dozen arrived at frankford with internal bleeding concussions and broken bones. i talked to one patient walking with crutches and a broken leg. he was exhausted and in pain after having been up all night. at templeton, the nursing supervisor said they received dozens of amtrak passengers. the most serious were taken to temple or hahnemann hospital. six medical campuses oen a level three alert and are now treating some of the more than 140 injured, either in critical condition or considered the walking wounded. in the next half hour a doctor here at frankford shares how his medical professionals mobilized to treat the patients from the derailment. live now from frankford, monique braxton, "nbc 10 news." >> reporter: all right, monique. we should tell our viewers, if

nbc 10's monique braxton is live at the scene with an update. monique? >> reporter: rosemary i just spoke with the fire chief and he says this is still a very fluid situation. they are no doubt assessing the situation here as smoke continues to billow throughout the community. he also says right now, the fire is contained, but it is not under control. and here's why. look at this exclusive video of hot spots, firefighters discovered inside villa a drone. it is a new tool firefighters are using to battle blazes. it's also giving them a closer look at what they're dealing with here inside this industrial building. now, you can see smoke rising. the drone allows firefighters to see the source where the inferno is concentrated. so we know this blaze has gutted both philadelphia floor store and sintex company. one of the owners is on scene. authorities are awaiting the arrival of the owner of sintex. both companies were unoccupied when the blaze began about six hours ago. the chief also tells us flooring products inside contain petroleum and are extremely fla

that's where "nbc 10's" monique braxton filled us in. >> reporter: hasheem singletary is waking up as the sunrises in police custody. his fugitive status ended when he walked through the doors just after midnight last night. our camera was rolling when singletary turned himself in to southwest detectives. police tell us his family worked with him all day long to make this happen. making him turn himself in because they didn't want any risk of anything happening, manhunt or forceful arrest according to his attorney. the brother told us singletary was, and we're quoting here scared to death. the 16-year-old escaped from a moving rental car while in handcuffs. the car was being used by a private prisoner transport company. singletary was on his way back to philadelphia from florida where he's supposed to face three armed robbery charges. he took off not too far from the detective division. >> i'm happy not because of the situation but this didn't turn out like a baltimore, this didn't turn out like a ferguson. the police department did exactly what they did best. they took him in. he'll

monique braxton is live on the ground.ot has happened in the last 12 hours. >> reporter: that's right. we're about a black and a half from where the deadly derailment occurred. this is the command center where the ntsb will be giving an update later this evening. let's go to sky force 10 video overlooking the scene. you can see it looks like 45% of the tracks have been replaced. also at the scene overlooking the tracks the contractors have hauled in concrete, steel and right now they are relaying rails. we have also learned that philadelphia's district attorney okayed a search warrant for the engineer's cell phone records. there are four tracks here. twhast all of us in the community call it. he will sit down with the ntsb according to his attorney. he will be talking again to northeast detectives. that could happen as early as today. next they will examine the data recorder. it's not really a black box but it's a data recorder. it shows the input made to the throttle. they want to see the sequence of events what happened

monique braxton is joining us with an update. >> reporter: we've been following this investigation for several hours now. take a look down this alley. police were called to this home after 4:00 this morning for an attempted home invasion. first to say this is the exact same address where there was a sexual assault earlier this week. right now police don't know if the crimes are connected. as for the sexual assault, police released new video tape. take a look at this. this is the dangerous sexual predator police want off the street. investigators say surveillance video tape we're showing you captured the suspect of a home invasion and sexual assault on monday. he's driving the 35-year-old victim's car away from her house in the 1800 block of south rosewood. police say the unknown man parked the car a few blocks away hops out and walks away. we spoke to one of the victims neighbors. >> it's weird. it's weird. it's all i can think about. it never happened before around here at all. i've been born and raised here. >> reporter: the suspect is described as a black male 20 to 30 years old. ju

"nbc 10's" monique braxton is here with details and student reaction. monique, tell us more. >> reporter: tracy, 20 students are in trouble here. several nude and partially nude photos of female students were being exchanged through texting and social media. all of the males were from the high school. one of the victims friends alerted school officials that this was going on. 27 cell phones were confiscated as part of the investigation. all 20 students are charged with invasion of privacy which could mean two years in a state training school for juvenile owe fenders. one of those 20 is an adult and that student could face 3 to 5 years in prison. students say the scandal is giving their school a bad name. >> that's really surprising to me. a lot of students are respectful individuals. it's really shocking. >> i love this school. i mean it's become like a second home to me and it's kind of really sad, actually to see something like that happen here. >> reporter: now in the next half hour we'll hear what the superintendent has to say about the scandal. trac
