monique braxton is live on the ground with more. monique?m g you exactly where we are. look at this house here. you see that several agents, fbi agents, federal agents are coming in and out of 612 and the house right next to it, 610. now what we've been told by police sources here, is that federal agents came to this house to participate in a raid. i'm being told it is not a drug raid. during the course of the raid, someone approached the officers pointing a gun at them. and the officer then opened fire, shooting and killing that male suspect. we're not sure now exactly what brought officers here to this home other than what they're describing to me as a raid. you can see that there are dozens of fbi agents, federal officers here, undercover officers here. the police commissioner from chest chester, bale, has just arrived on the scene. he tells us he'll give us an update momentarily. my photographer, dave palmer will show you, there are dozens of neighbors out on the street watching this. when we pulled up a short time ago, police were tapin

monique braxton has been covering the crash since it happened and she joins us live. monique, you just learned the pilot's identity. >> that's right, denise. we've also just learned that the investigation is now kicking it into high gear. and investigators tell us david sees took off from camden county airport. >> sad whoever is onboard. i mean, you don't want to see tragedies like that. >> hours after david sees crash under to the woods his cessna 150 is towed away. >> reporter: ron mu dilly heard the crash and knew something about it didn't sound quite right. did you hear people screaming or yelling? >> nothing. >> reporter: investigators did say people saw this now crashed plane flying low before it went down at 11:30. narrowly missing homes. >> probably approximately 150 feet from a residence. there was some fuel leakage from the fuel tank. >> reporter: but police say there was no fire or explosion at the scene. yet we saw firefighters at this wooded lot here behind 634 jackson road. people who say they knew the 65-year-old pilot huddled together in the rain here a

nbc10's monique braxton is live for us in front of the shous. wh courthouse. >> reporter: when delvin barnes was arrested police told us he confessed and now he is backing up that plea with a guilty plea. the gripping image of a then 22-year-old woman who was snatched off a germantown neighborhood street was scene around the country. barnes is charged with kidnapping the woman and taking her to maryland. during the extensive two-day search they shared video of a man they believe to be barnes using the victim's atm card and shopping in a convenience store. they wanted us to take a good look at his gait, his walk. the suspect and victim were then found inside his car in a parking lot and we are showing you the car as well as aerials of that strip mall's parking lot. investigators say barnes told them he selected the victim at random. we will be here to let you know what happens inside federal court. monique braxton, nbc10 news. >>> 71 degrees outside at 6:05. >>> we are getting our first look at philadelphia police department's new training center

monique braxton joins us with these extra measures that people will start seeing soon. >> reporter: good morning. i'm on a quiet street now here in center city but this will be one of the entry points for the the ben franklin parkway. look at the dozens of concrete barricades here lining the streets. just down in the distance, you can see another form of barricade. moments ago a secret service agent told us that thousands of people are going to be snaking through the metal barricades, entering the parkway. and in the distance where are you see what looks like a white tent, under that tent are the magnetometers, that's where people will enter the parkway after they are properly screened. in less than an hour the ben franklin parkway east of 20th street to 12th will be accessible only to those pedestrians who are screened by a metal detector. today is the day with under five square miles of center city and west philadelphia will be off limits to vehicular traffic. eight-foot high fencing has been erected to close off secured areas. at 8:00 this morning, authorized vehicle access roads are

monique braxton is live for us. monique, tell us the condition of the victim if you know. >> reporter: we're hearing the victim is in stable condition and momentarily she will be interviewed by detectives from the special victims unit. i can tell you, though, here in frankford, vai, the scene has been released back to the school which means kids can come outside and once again play here. detectives just left but it was a much different scenario as the sun was rising here over frankford. look at our video know. investigators tell us just before 6:00 a woman told them she was wiffle whpistol whipped purse taken during an apparent sexual assault. police who responded described the schoolyard where the victim was dragged as blood-splattered. our camera was rolling when police blocked off public access to the schoolyard which was a crime scene at the time. the victim was taken to a local hospital. she will be talking to svu and their goal is to have a composite sketch done. what you're looking at right now is a school dis

nbc10's monique braxton is live in front of the federal courthouse in old city. nique, tell us what's happened. >> reporter: dell vin barnes has shown no emotion when he entered the courtroom on the 17th floor, handcuffed behind his back. knowing he was coming to plea on a plea agreement that would land him in prison for 35 years instead of his life. when questioned by the judge, 35-year-old barnes told the court he had been treated for anxiety and depression since held in custody. this riveting surveillance videotape showed him capturing a woman off a germantown street in may. they were found two days later in his car in maryland. when asked why, he said he took her by force off the street and drove her to maryland as an act of depression. he also said he can't make sense of it. he mentioned he ran out of money and was waiting on the corner to rob someone to get back to virginia to face charges there. now, under the terms of this agreement, barnes will not be prosecuted in virginia. barnes plead guilty to kidnapping and sexual exploitation. so, i asked the federa

nbc 10's monique braxton joins us live this morning to break it all down for us. monique?>> reporter: hi, tracy. i am standing along the parade route. according to the archdiocese, the pope will be in a parade that's going to extend just on the other side of love park that you see here and out along the parkway. it will occur saturday evening, just prior to the festival of families. look at this map that we've made for you. the pontiff will come from eakins oval towards the basilica and loop around city hall. 30,000 general admission tickets or papal event, including getting into the parkway above 20th street will become available next week. here's the breakdown for you. 10,000 tickets for immigration speech at independence hall will be available on tuesday on a first come, first served basis. another 10,000 tickets for saturday's festival of families. they will become available next wednesday, also on a first come, first served basis. and then 10,000 tickets for sunday's papal mass, available on wednesday to people as well on a first come, first served basis. everything,

nbc10's monique braxton is live at the scene.l us what's happening. >> reporter: just moments ago i learned from fbi sources that they came here about 6:00 this morning for a raid involving a child pornography case. right now you see fbi agents, some dressed in protective hazmat clothing, along with investigators from the d.a.'s office in delaware county. they've been going in and out of this house for several hours. we learned two people who live at the house are with police as part of the child pornography investigation. they're being questioned right now. investigators also say, federal agents executing a search warrant in the investigation encountered a gunman. sources say an fbi agent open fire, striking and killing that gunman. we spoke with witnesses as well as parents taking their children to the bus stop in the midst of the investigation. >> i heard some people say, get on the ground! get on the ground! and i heard pep, pep, pep, pep. >> as a parent, it's hard because already this morning as soon as my kids walked out th

monique braxton is live. it's a big day for wawa and hokey fans in philly. >> reporter: you got that right, vai. in the past hour we've been watching the employees show up here. you can see they are wearing inaugural team t-shirts on the front it tells you the location here at broad and walnut. when this store opens at 8:00 it will be the official plag ship store for wawa. the manager on duty told us so far he has hired about 70 people and they expect to hire dozens more. let's go back now about 50 years ago. it's more than half a skrentry since the first wawa opened in delaware county. it was an outlet for the company's dairy products, now there are more than 645 wawas with hundreds of the super stores as they are called. offing gas, a lottery machine, atm, you name it. we checked and found forbes reports wawa's revenue at $9.3 billion. forbes ranks the store as number 38 on america's largest private company lists. this location is opening two months ahead of schedule. just in time for all of the millions of

nbc10's monique braxton is live in center city with more. monique, what kind of goodies did you find there? >> reporter: vai, they've got an assortment of everything you might imagine. visiting any foreign country or here in the states, souvenirs galore. come inside with us. look at the video we captured a few moments ago inside the aramark tower. this is the first official stop. you'll see religious items like pope francis dolls, rosary beads and prayer cards of all sizes. there are also baby items. for collectors, pins, bobbleheads of the pontiff and other souvenirs as well. moments ago i asked aramark's spokesperson how they planned to showcase this world meeting of families merchandise to the masses of people expected in town. >> our partnership with the world meeting of families, we'll be operating about 15 locations on the parkway for pop francis' visit. we'll be at independence mall during the festival on saturday. and we'll be operating the stores at the pennsylvania convention center. >> reporter: don't be surprised if you see kiosks

monique braxton is in the news center to explain this. monique? >> a teenager brought a gun to a west chester high school and he's luck yo to be alive this morning. take a look. the side is marked colt 1911. it's a replica of a colt 4 45 1911. it sent officers swarming to the school yesterday morning. the building went on lockdown. the authorities have charged a 15-year-old with a misdemeanor. now some officials want state laws changed saying the teenager put a lot of people in danger. >> you see this gun? this looks like the gun that i am carried right now. >> toy or no toy, this is no joke and this could get him killed by police or someone else with a gun. >> we also spoke to delaware county's district attorney jack wehlen. he says the teenager is charged with carrying a weapon on the school property. that's a misdemeanor. he says legislature should work on strengthening the laws. we'll bring that to you in the next half hour. >>> brewing up fear. police say robbers in south jersey is are targeting coffee shops. they're tracking them pulling off

nbc 10's monique braxton is live in front of the federal courthouse in philadelphia with more. onique, tell us. >> reporter: hi, tracy. a federal court spokesperson told us that linda weston will be appearing here in federal court in just a couple of hours for what's being called a change of plea hearing. weston pleaded not guilty last year to kidnapping mentally disabled adults and holding them while stealing social security and other government benefit checks. you may recall the shocking discovery of four adults found chained inside the basement of a tacony apartment building in 2011. the conditions were atrocious. some were attached to a boiler pipe. during the investigation, it was revealed weston and her co-defendant allegedly moved those adults to texas, virginia and florida wrenn she thought authority were on to her. the victims told police they were also beaten. one had children while being held captive. weston was also charged with murder and discussions are under way in several states, including the u.s. attorney's office regarding the federal death penalty, seeking th

monique braxton was there for the grand opening and has a look at what you can expect when you stop bywawa. >> reporter: the store in center city opened two months ahead of schedule, just in time for the world meeting of families. this flagship store launched with an hour-long celebration and hundreds of wawa faithfuls packed inside. mayor nutter helped cut the ribbon. the manager told us 70 people now have new jobs as part of his inaugural team. as you know, wawa is the signature sponsor of welcome america, but the philly stay is also contributing in a huge way to the pontiff's visit to the city of brotherly love. >> i'd say our bigger contribution was the water, the product that we're going to give, about 100,000 meals for the emergency responders, and, as well, volunteers. that's really the element of us getting involved to make sure we're there on scene. >> reporter: during the world meeting of families, six of the stores in center city will be donating a percentage of their sales to the francis fund. wawa ceo also tells us the goal is to raise $15,000 to alleviate hunger. in cente
