want to make sure that you know that if you combine the ages of myself, or president chiu, and monique moyer we might get to 150 years, maybe. but i'm down here to have fun, today, get out of city hall, go to bubba gumps and make sure that i spend it with other people who love to have fun like our port commission and hers directors and the staff and the rec and parks here and i know that the fire chiefs had to lessen her fun time and go to a three alarm fire and thank you to her for being vigilant for the city. and we would rec and park they have discovered yet another great partner to find water front open space that we can all enjoy, both in terms of getting our public to understand our bond program better, but also to create new spaces. so thank you, phil for being here as well. our port commissioners extend not to present but to past for commissioners and he knows that and i saw mike and others, because it takes generations of people to create things along the water front. it is incredibly expensive to restore a lot of our piers and monique is the first person to know that intimately and

so please welcome monique moyer. >> well, good morning, everyone. and welcome to the most amazing water front in the world. it is always sunny and clear when we are celebrating at the water front. and as mr. ashley said, one week from today, the port of san francisco will mark the 150 anniversary and i could not think of a better birthday present than the new exporatorium. so it is my honor and also my thrill to be here today to not just to celebrate this grand achievement but to mark this historic moment for the port wr, we have once guinea involved ourselves both architecturally, scientifically, socially, and environmentally, and economically. and the port as you know, was the beginning of our city, just a few blocks here and it is the basic of the tell graph hill and it started as agricultural and fishing village, right there where down's offices are was the first fisherman's wharf. >> and it is just amazing to see how it has transformed. of course, the thing that really set the city on fire was the gold rush and in the words of one historian, th

[ applause ] >> and we havehe acting director for the department of building inspection, tom right behind me. and i see a few of our friends from puc, planning and many of the other city departments. but the one thing that i like about events in san francisco as we go around the city, every supervisor gets to speak on a project in their district. and i think the supervisor whose district we are in, jane kim has got most of the projects that are happening in san francisco. yes. she does. and because i remember a few years ago i only live up the street in hunter's point this place used to just be a lot of warehouse and now we have this whole great mission bay development, and as part of mission bay development we have the building and we have many projects in san francisco, we have the hunter's point shipyard and we have quite a number of projects and i think that because of the leadership that the mayor has brought together along with the board of supervisors that make these projects happen. >> jane would you com

if i were monique moyer, the port's director sitting here, which i'm not, she would be able to rattle off the costs associated with the repairs, the roofs, the doors, the things that are on our list of things to do for which there are insufficient resources. but basically what we're trying to do is, spur these redevelopment efforts are taking care of some of those environmental hazards. in that pier 70 area, dogpatch potrero area we were talking about, clearly one of the key reasons why we were even looking at redevelopment there is because of the historic preservation urgency. but it is also environmental. there are some open space and water recreation opportunities there that are unique to the entire waterfront for kayakers and power hand rowers. the contamination, the lead paint that was scraped off of the ships and deposited there was mixed in with the sand that was used to scrape it off with needs to be cleaned up. and there is no obvious answer on that. the port did with the help of senator migden get a piece of legislation signed into law within the last few weeks to create i a
