i came up with this concept of a narrative relief because everybody knows about monroe and the monroe doctrine which the sculpture depiction an essence of the monroe doctrine. however, we wanted to publicize and become more well known by the general population, the aspects of his life of monroe but the general population does not know. we start with, over here on the left, as a student, and ending, as we go around clock wise, terminating with his service as president of the united states for two terms. this shows you the work in my studio on the clay. this is the student aspect. there's the wren building. over here as president on the dais, this is the white house, of course, at that time, minus the front portico and bulletin ch's capitol with the dome, finished late in his second term. these are two buildings prominent for him. this thing goes on the monument itself. this is the car touche and it has some relation to the lord bot dot i made in the wren yard which i'll talk about. this is granite, green granite and a golden bronze. the college colors. how could i do otherwise? this is

we thought we had monroe's original house. now here highland, monroe's original name. and now we have a guest house and more arc dwrolg do. which is fun. to give you a sense of how do we interpret slavery at highland. it is required on the guided tour that guides mention slavery on a national context as well as individual slaves by name. we have a slavery at highland drop in station on fridays and saturdays where you can see an interpreter in action there. they have a table full of primary resources and guests can come and engage as long or short a time as they wish. we attempted to have a formal walking tour and found the guests didn't have the time budgeted. by switching to a drop in situation we were able to multiply our engage men, which we were really happy about. we also interpret slavery on the property just through the structures that are there. behind me you can see a reconstructed slave quarter that was done in the 1980s. here's another angle of that flanked by an original 1821 overseer house on the left and an original monroe smoke house on the right for kin
