this was and montana. two questions i would consider tough, but there were not even that, but they concerned health- care overhaul. he has found a more focused villain, that is health care companies. he referred to them no less than 31 times in this speech in question, saying that insurance companies have essentially been the big block in addressing health care for all americans in furthermore, saying that a big impediment on removing that impediment him moving health care for all that you cannot be denied coverage from pre- existing conditions or have your coverage not carried to another job, the so-called issue of portability. it is interesting to note as well that the president wanted to take his critics head-on. of the many questions he received, only to her would be considered critical questions. the president saying that a lot of this whole drama over health care and what it is going to be providing and what it will provide has turned into an emotional gambit. the president saying that tv loves a ruc

he just passed the governor of montana there.he recently elected senator who was elected in 2006. and the president is hoping to get challenged a little bit directly so he can knock down some of what he thinks are myths about health care reform. they ticketed the event to try to make that happen, giving out two tickets to everybody who showed up, so there could be some mystery guests show up. this is really a critical moment for barack obama in health care reform. this is his first year to try to get this. we have seen presidents' political capital diminish after they get to their first year. they staked the success of his presidency on getting health care reform, for trying to change the underlying economic basis of the country and to resolve a problem that's bedevilled democrats for 70 years now. harry truman tried to get health care reform. franklin roosevelt tried to get it. this new, young president is working this very hard and we talked earlier in the hour to nancy-ann deparle, the director of the office of the white house

how the president is trying to gain the upper hand in the health care debate as he heads west to montanathe obama family is on their way to montana right now, where this afternoon the president will be holding a town hall meeting, another town hall meeting to try to sell his plan, what he calls selling the myths of what has been said by the opposition about the plan. it's the big story at the white house. let's bring in nbc news white house correspondent, savannah guthrie. savannah, have they figured out another way to get their message across? it hasn't worked so far, to their satisfaction, or anyone else's. >> reporter: well, look, they know they have a problem. the polls show it, clearly. numerous polls show that support for health care reform is dropping. so what they're trying to do is one thing they have always done, which is put the president out there. they've refined the message. today's town hall will focus on yet another insurance reform, focusing on what around here they call rescissions, which is the practice of insurance companies when they drop people when they become sick

jon tester of montana joins us. good to see you. >> good to be on and congratulations on the show, carlos. i'm a big fan. >> thank you very much. very much appreciated. i understand for all of the focus on health care that you've actually been focused on a very different issue related to general motors, the large car company. you want to share a little bit what seems to be a pretty strong piece of frustration on your part? >> absolutely, carlos. what has gone on is gm who took $50 billion of bailout money has decided to go to a bankruptcy court and cancel a contract with the stillwater mine that provides them with the material that goes into catalytic converters which makes the cars burn cleaner so the air is cleaner that comes out of the exhaust. >> to be clear, that's a mine in montana? >> that's a mine in montana. the only specific mine in the united states. they said we're getting the palladium from russia or south america. when they came to the banking committee, gm i'm talking about, a year and a half ago, the
