monte francis has the story for us. >> good evening. as you said, protesters marched into banks all across the area today. police arrested three people at a wells fargo in santa rosa and in oakland. one bank responded by shutting down. >> and bank security stood in the blockade preventing protesters from entering a wells fargo branch in oakland. after a brief struggle, signs went up in the window stating the bank was closed for the day due to an emergency. >> protest ares also disrupted business at several banks in san francisco. a loyal bank of america customer for more than 30 years told us why he decided to join in the protests. closing his account and moving his money into a local credit union. >> it's only a small gesture. i'm not in a position to do much damage. for my own conscience, i don't want my money going for that activity. >> that activity they say includes the practice of predatory lending and imposing unnecessary fees. just in october, at least 650,000 people switched to credit unions after b of a announced it would star

we bring in monte francis who joins us from san jose. monte, what's the timing here?hy the big upswing in the last 30 days? >> reporter: raj, the reason is that banks have been involved in a legal battle involving that robo signing scandal so defaults were on hold for a time. experts say if the economy doesn't start adding jobs, even more defaults could be on the way. in what's become a daily routine outside the san jose courthouse, those eager to buy foreclosed homes huddle with cell phones in hand for a trustee sale. each address read outloud represents another homeowner in financial trouble. a.j. smith lost his home earlier this year. >> we got so far behind from them selling our loan that we didn't know it went to a different bank that i just couldn't make up the money to pay for it. >> reporter: smith is among 25 people now camping out in front of san jose city hall as part of the occupy movement. >> yeah, it was very difficult. me an my wife ended up getting divorced over it. so she went and lived with her grandma and i just came out here, trying to get work. >>

let's go live to monte francis covering the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we just got an update from police. a man is in critical but stable condition following in the shooting in the parking lot. at 1:50 a.m. police responded to reports of shots fired in the parking lot of wal-mart. they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a nearby hospital. police have arrested a man in his 20s, but are still looking for at least one more person wanted in connection with the shooting. they tell us a family was just leaving wal-mart with their purchases when they were approached by a group of armed robbers. when a male member resisted the robbers shot him and police are now interviewing witnesses. right now police aren't sure if the man they have in dis is the shooter or not. >> you know, whenever you have a lot of shoppers on a day like today. people get angry. things like this happen. wal-mart has since reopened, but the parking lot is closed. police are talking to witnesses, and they are working on a description of the robbers. and we will ke
