they are dealing with concerns of mudslides in the montecito burn areas and, of course, los angeles could see some flash flooding. for us we'll be dealing with a chance of showers and thunderstorms because of what's behind that rain band. also let's talk about the coast. there's a high surf advisory in effect so that's going to start today at 3 p.m. through saturday at 5 p.m. because of that low the way it's churning up the ocean there. northwest swells 13 to 16 feet up to 25 feet though so large runup waves. i know it's not necessarily beach weather out there. but if you are going for a walk perhaps, do expect to see some big waves and here's from the beaches to the mountains we go because it's california and we can. we are dealing with more snow and visibility not so great and yes, the wind is out there not as strong as yesterday. but this is from the tahoe/truckee airport and you can see a lot of snow has definitely piled up. we can definitely see it coming down across our hi-def doppler mostly in south lake tahoe. the north side getting a break to allow those snowplows to hopefully cl

it's nervous time here in montecito just south of santa barbara. residents here have taken off or also hunkered down at home. there is nobody where i'm standing in what's usually a bustling area. this location san ysidro creek was covered with rocks, boulder mud and debris that came out of the hills behind me in january because of the thomas fire that burned this whole area. the rainfall from about 3500 feet just came down here, full force, nothing holding it back. this creek was completely full of rocks and boulders and, of course, a lot of blew out bridges and big boulders went through homes and caused a great deal of destruction in this area. so people have seep devastation and death and they have evacuated as you say 30,000 people. someone in carpinteria had three sheriff's deputies at her door for the second time reminding her to get out now because of the potential for flooding. >> and john, with all those people leaving the area, 30,000 people, where are they all heading? have you talked to many people down there? what are they telling you?
