our christmas day storms let's track this one hour by hour because it is going to primarily impact monterey county specifically santa cruz and the santa mountains and it's going to peak shortly before 10 o'clock for your sunday night for those areas just to the south still dry for us here in the bay area. but then by around 11 o'clock sunday night we're going to notice light to moderate even heavy downpours as the storm starts to make its way from the southwest to the northeast by around monday into your monday morning commute we are going to notice the storm starts to break apart light, scattered showers continuing for monday afternoon and early monday evening with the storm exiting the bay area by around 4 o'clock monday afternoon. but rain totals check it out half moon bay could see about half an inch of rain or less about a 3rd of an inch of rain is expected for the east bay valley specifically along the east bay shoreline oakland and hayward also getting some much needed rain there and even san jose could possibly pick up about a quarter of an inch of rain or less with lesser amounts f

it happened about 1:45 this afternoon along the 3600 block often monterey road. the driver was attempting to move a truck off of a trailer when the girl jumped on to the trailer directly in front of that truck. police safe she was taken to the hospital where she later died. >>> a 14-year-old girl from guerneville was found dead in the back seat of a car with a teenager at the wheel. it happened 1:00 monday afternoon at bay sillage circle. the passenger had no visible signs of trauma to her body, but was unresponsive in the back seat and pronounced dead at the scene. henry lee has details. >> reporter: it seemed like a routine call for santa rosa police. a camry had sideswiped a nissan on pioneer road and left the scene on monday afternoon. the victim called police saying the car had pulled over a block away. police spoke to the driver of the camry. >> a 16-year-old female who appeared to be intoxicated. in the back seat, there was another teenage female laying down as if she was sleeping. when they tried to wake her up, she was initially unresponsive. they opened

we are noticing some light bands of rain starting to make its way into monterey county and even snow right now dusting the highest peaks of the santa mountains and we are going to notice the heaviest downpours over the santa will see a mountain starting at 10 o'clock tonight through about 4 o'clock for your monday morning but for us here in the bay area we're going to notice some light scattered showers as that storm starts to make its way from the southwest to the northeast into the bay area bringing us some light showers but we will notice a drier weather by our monday morning with that drying trend continuing through our monday afternoon. so let's take a look at rain totals with this storm we are going to see about a 3rd of an inch of rain or less mainly for the southern portions of the bay area specifically the southern part of the san francisco peninsula and even into mountain view and san jose with a lesser amounts for those of you in the north bay because the storm is coming from the southwest to the northeast. so it is going to dry out significantly for those of you in the no

following breaking news in san jose where a girl was hit and killed by a truck at a dealership on monterey highway. police just releasing this information, the driver was unloading the truck the carrier when the girl jumped onto the trailer and was struck. the driver is cooperating with the investigation. >>> more breaking news this evening, the new mutant strand of the converse has reached our state. >> officials warned that the new strain is even more contagious. and here is what we know. a 30-year-old man has tested positive for the mutant strain in san diego county. the first case detected here in california. the man has no travel history, which makes health officials believe there are more cases out there. at least one case has been detected in colorado. that was the first in the u.s. governor gavin newsom announced the news virtually with dr. fauci today. >> i'm not surprised that you have a case and likely more cases in california. there is no indication at all that it increases the vera lynn's, the ability to make you sick or kill you. it doesn't make it more strong in that regard.

. >> reporter: we are here at the dealership on monterey highway, and the accident happened inside this fenced in lot full of trucks. as you can see san jose police are still on the scene and we have seen a social worker and chaplain arrived as well earlier today. the accident happened around 1:45 this afternoon. police say a driver was trying to move a truck off the trailer. san jose police say a girl jumped onto the trailer, causing the truck to roll. she was rushed to the local hospital but they could not save her life. we did capture this footage of a truck in the lot where the accident happened. investigators spent most of the afternoon and early evening taking measurements and inspecting the trailer read officers also say the driver is fully cooperating with this investigation. this is the 47th fatal accident in the city of san jose it appears to be just a horrible incident that claimed the life of a young girl.>> michelle griego and len kiese and our morning team will have the latest on the story beginning at 4:30. >>> we have a new update tonight on covid spread in the state. he

statewide and that is a crisis at facilities like hazel hawkins hospital in hollister, inland from monterey bay. that is where we find nbc's scott cohn joining us now with more on the vaccine distribution and the challenges hospitals are facing. scott, how are hospital workers doing where you are, particularly with cases going up and bed capacity going down to almost nothing? >> reporter: yeah, it's really rough, joshua. as you know, hollister, as you said, it's inland and sort of on the edge of the central valley. so they get a cross-section here of people commuting to silicon valley about 40, 50 miles away and agricultural workers. this hospital, hazel hawkins in hollister, is the only hospital in the county and it is now operating at 130% of capacity. not just the icus but the whole hospital. they've had to double up patients in what were single rooms. they have patients that are staying in the emergency room. and of course a lot of it owing to that surge of covid patients. and people here wonder if there's any sign of it letting up. >> it's like a war zone inside there. we are kind of t
