as far as for today, you can see the fog from san francisco down to the monterey bay approaching southern california. you basically have the forecast in the short term. high pressure still in command of the weather. temperatures inland, only maxing out in the lower 80s. the beaches in the 60s. this weather system has been dropping down to the south, down towards southern california keying the temperatures on the cool and mild side. we'll warm things up a little bit as we head into thursday. here's our forecast model showing you the clouds regrouping into tomorrow morning and then clearing back to near the shore line. thursday, those numbers come up about 3 to 6 degrees warmer than today's highs. santa rosa mid-70s. oakland in the lower 70s. san francisco, 67. san jose, 79 and half moon bay checks in at 67 degrees. here is a look ahead to your five-day forecast -- temperatures up a few degrees. these are all minor changes for thursday and friday and then maybe just a little bit of a cooler forecast. steve paulson typed on sunday, it looks good and i agree, temperatures inland 80s and beach

many people don't remember that we had a non-destructive tsunami in monterey bay. now, as far as comparisons are concerned, again there is no comparison. the loma prieta earthquake affected many more people right here in the bay area. similarities are, though, because the loma prieta earthquake did occur during the 1989 world series, we had less people on the roadways at a very high volume time. typically that was the evening rush. we had people at home watching the game. and, by the way, loma prieta earthquake was the first nationally televised earthquake across the country due to that world series game. and in napa at 3:20 in the morning nobody wassen the road. so both earthquakes had people out on the roads, which is a good thing and did save a lot of lives. things that are better today, definitely communication. i remember trying to get some information for my assignment desk at my television station. that was limited due to our cellphones at that time. they were so big, we had to carry them around in suitcases at that time. once your battery went on you it was

and volunteers moved quickly to help free a humpback whale caught in a fishing line in monterey bay. whale watching tour first spotted the distressed whale caught in a line yesterday. it recorded a team of volunteers authorized by noaa. sailed from lost landing to free the animal. lucky the humpback was able to free itself and rejoin its pod before the team arrived. but you can see all the netting around it. the team volunteers said they had to bull a crab pot buoy and 200 feet from the line from the water. about 30% to 50% of humpback whale population in the north pacific have entanglement scars. >> the journey to america stopped at sfo for a bunch of giant mill peeds being shipped to the san joaquin valley. you can see what custom and border protection agents found when they kplaed packages at the airport postal facility. the package arrived from germany and was mislabelled toy car model. federal law requires special permits to import exotic animals. the foot-long mill peeds, all 20 of them, are now at the u.s. department of agriculture. >> harvesting is in full swing in the centra
