latest on the kpix 5 hi-def doppler shows the action at the moment is concentrated mostly in the monterey bay area in the south end of the big sur coastline. up in the north bay and in the south bay, just scattered showers right now. a little bit around the kpix 5 hi-def doppler site up at mount vaca. but most of this is still offshore as you can see, this pineapple express tapping moisture from all the way north of the hawaiian islands, much of the moisture offshore will affect us overnight. intense rain and wind will develop shortly favoring the south bay to begin with. treacherous mountain travel, rivers rising through monday, widespread road flooding through tomorrow night. totals as much as 7" in the north bay and almost a foot of rain in the santa cruz mountains by the time all is said and done by monday night. and yet it is not all said and done by monday night. we have more on the way after this. we'll have the details when we cover the forecast in a few minutes. >>> let's get back to our live team coverage as people are gearing up for all the wind and rain. >> jackie ward is standing

so we will have a lingering rain shower out towards the monterey bay area today.therwise, we are drying out. we are seeing right now atmospheric river conditions set up. this is the weather pattern here. when you see this plume of moisture it trails all the way back to the tropics. our jet stream is guiding that along the path into the bay area. so as it does so, once it starts raining, it's a training effect. we'll just see the rain keep on going, keep on going, all the way through sunday. at this particular time, everybody is in complete agreement as far as the national weather service is concerned and our kpix 5 weather department, we are forecasting three to six inches of rain in throughout the city of san francisco back through the peninsula. the targeted area will be the santa cruz mountains. we'll see more rain there than in the north bay. that plume of moisture is about 40 miles wide. so the targeted areas pretty much like the peninsula, santa cruz mountains into the monterey bay area. big sur is going to get slammed. so about a foot of rain is anticipated

as we look at the kpix 5 hi-def doppler, most of the action today has been focused south of the monterey bay area. the big sur coastline. but look at this on the left- hand side of your screen. this has developed only in the last hour and a half. so the moisture is beginning to show up off of the bay area and the result is that that's going to be working its way on to the peninsula by 9 p.m. tonight. the moment the only showers that we have of any significance are up in the north and east bay and that's widely scattered showers. but you want an idea as to what's going to happen? look at this for a moment. that's 10 p.m. tonight. some of the heaviest cells in futurecast the model of what should be happening in the succeeding hours so we get these heavy cells 10:00 tonight favoring the south bay. rain stays there until 1 a.m. the north bay gets away with not much but then watch what happens as we head toward sunrise. the north bay picks up some of the heaviest cells at that time and at least still heavy cells scattered around the south bay, as well. so up in the north bay by sunrise tomorrow a

heading out of the immediate bay area find fog in the central valley. 50 in sacramento and 57 at fresno eureka we have found 55 degrees up in the north coast and 56 in monterey. and back in the bay area today doesn't look bad. hazy sunshine temperatures will be in the upper 50s with 58 for morgan hill and east bay not bad after fog this morning. we will have 57 at walnut creek and 58 saturday san ramon north bay nice hazy sunshine again and 54 at kentfield. 56 for san rafael. and lake county 61 degrees at ukiah. extendeded forecast when the rain comes in -- extended forecast when the rain comes in. and then the major part of the cold front comes through right around the evening commute tomorrow night with brief but heavy rain. break on thursday for the most part and friday rain coming in as well. another similarly strong system with not just rain but also pretty good winds and isolated showers on saturday for sunday we get pummeled pretty good one more time before getting a chance to drain and dry on monday. next week high pressure builds in and it looks like a dry week next week but in the meantime, expect wet. and expect sports coming up. >> straight ahead

bay area is under a flood warning. right? they couldn't. in their monterey offices they have their gauges for every, single river and creek in the bay area and once it goes over, bam goes the warning. this morning let's walk you through what's going on here in the bay area. we are not out of the woods. in fact, anne makovec will be reporting from the russian river in guerneville because this is a very dire situation! anywhere between 6 and 8 feet above flood stage and it will happen today. we're anticipating flooding at parkers resort, brookside resort and many of the low businesses. meanwhile, we have the napa river in saint helena another big factor here is that we have the mudslide at the silverado trail. the only way to get home is through this particular area and there will be moderate flooding there and, of course, the napa river in napa we anticipate secondary road to flood today with the cresting of 26.1 feet. it's already occurring now. hi-def doppler radar, hit-and- miss scattered showers, pounded yesterday with up to 7" of rain in some areas. urba

here is live doppler 7 with avy rain from big sur to monterey and this will push up through the bay area in the next couple of hours. we've had gusty winds, strong thunderstorms. along the central coast here, san luis obispo and this is what is pointed at the bay area, northern california and the entire state really. it is actually a funnel mechanism where we'll see round after round of rain head our way through the overnight hours into tomorrow. so flash flood watch through tomorrow evening for the entire bay area. we're looking at possibility of some roadways flooded and a wind advisory through the afternoon. now this will bring southerly winds, 20 to 30 miles per hour, wind gusts up to 45. some of the wind gusts today and then the high-wind warning in the higher elevations where winds gust to 50 to 60 miles per hour. so let's check out the winds tonight. you notice 20 to 25 miles per hour. but as we get into early tomorrow, when we have very heavy rain, the ground is saturated, very likely we could see some power lines down and trees down with wind gusts here of 50 miles per hour thro

north bay, down to the south bay and the santa cruz mountains and into monterey as well as parts of the east bay as well. in the higher elevations, it's been upgraded to a high wind warning so for the hills and mountains, that extends until 1:00 this afternoon for the north bay areas and the east bay and the south bay and tomorrow morning. and this is where gusts can reach up to 60 miles per hour above 1500 feet. all right. so here's what you can expect for tomorrow on our storm impact scale. it is going to be major. that's 4 out of 5. so tomorrow, between midnight and 10:00 in the morning is when we expect our most severe impact. heavy, heavy rain, powerful wind gusts, we're expecting flooding and wind damage, power outages are likely as well. so here are the major concerns. we're going to look for stream and creek flooding. that's going to be high tomorrow. debris flows over the burn scar areas where we've had some some of the recent fires. also, hydroplaning will be likely and high and we can expect power outages as well as river flooding if you can avoid driving as cornell mentioned
