the fast-moving flames burning out of control in monterrey county. it consumed six homes and 11,000 acres near caramel. at this point it's 5% contained. "today in the bay" kris sanchez is live with how local firefighters are helping out on the front lines, kris. >> reporter: it's not a fire that is going to be put out quickly. it's erratic, it has extreme fire behavior, the temperatures are high, as kari has been talking about, now we have local crews heading to help in the fire fight. we can tell you that san mateo county did send fire equipment and personnel. redwood city fire sent firefighters and personnel. they'll be working hard trying to protect more than 1600 structures that are still at risk right now. as you mentioned, six homes are already gone. as you mentioned, 11,000 acres are burned. the fire is only 5% contained. on saturday afternoon, evacuation orders were issued south of carmel for folks that live there. they're not supposed to be out of their homes. several neighborhoods are being told to be ready to go at a moment's notice. red c

a huge fire continuing to rage in monterrey county leaving behind a path of destruction.he number of charred homes at this point now stands at 34. >> "today in the bay's" damian trujillo live in salinas this morning. this fire is raging out of control, damian. >> it is. good morning. crews are just waking up this morning and ready for this shift here at base camp for today. it's going to be another long and hot and tiresome day up for them in fighting the soberanes fire down south of carmel in monterrey county. at this point we do have the one fatality of the dozer operator from the other day. the last report from cal fire has the containment still at 10%. the fire remains in tough terrain, difficult area to access. sometimes crews have to hike for three miles just to be able to get to the incident. and that has cal fire concerned mainly about fatigue, especially with the heat. so they are keeping a close eye on the crews out here. total response was about 3,000 firefighters, but 500 more arrived recently. many of them from the bay area. so far, 34 homes have been destroy

and once again, we are seeing the fire down near monterrey is very -- near a very dry area. also just north of l.a., the sand fire in a very intense dry area where it will continue to be very critical as they try to get that under control. but it looks like our wind flow starts out blowing offshore. when we have offshore winds it makes the coastal areas even there very hot. but we are starting out with some low clouds and fog there. and it will be a little bit more breezy today. but still a lot of smoke flying through the air reducing our air quality for the day. and the next couple of days. look at how hot it gets as we go into this afternoon and to the low 90s in san jose. up to 91 degrees at 4:00. in san francisco, it will be also very warm there. at least compared to average. up to 76 degrees. and we will drop back into the low 70s tomorrow. the rest of the forecast brings it into the 60s there. as we get a look at the tri-valley we will have highs today reaching up to 99 degrees and 102 tomorrow. still more 90s in the forecast but it comes back down into the 80sthis wee
