to heavy snow right now in central montgomery county. that batch of green right there showing it's snowing pretty hard from near ulney through gaithersburg and rockville to potomac and now coming into bethesda, another patch of green there in ar ling tongue, snowing pretty hard there. where you see the dark blues, that is where we're getting the moderate snow. the light blue is just light snow that continues around the region. now, the snowfall totals overnight, we had generally about three to five inches, higher amounts in the panhandle of west virginia. more on the way. and the temperatures are in the 20s to near 30 degrees. now 31 in washington. so what's falling is sticking. blizzard warning in effect across much of the region just to the north and east of washington, as well as in the potomac highlands of west virginia. blizzard warning means we'll have winds over 35 miles per hour causing considerable blowing and drifting snow. that warning extends to new jersey, southeastern pennsylvania and long island. for us snow totals by 7:00

that includes upper montgomery county and points east and north. let's go to the computer. look at the size of this storm, it's mind boggling to see two record breaking storms within four days of each other. usually it takes the atmosphere time to recharge itself, i know it does us. here we go. the storm is now a little bit east of atlantic city. it's throwing back a ton of moisture. temperatures, because the system hugged the coast earlier, they are above freezing in places like boston and also providence. it is snowing there and it will get worse. as far as we're concerned, we had the brunt of the winds and enough snow in philadelphia, the brunt of both. again, the storm is going to pull away and slowly but surely, the whole area of precipitation will move back to the north and east. we are seeing bands develop from north to south and that will continue, especially in eastern loudoun county, right around the river for the next couple of hours. don't forget to check on the elderly. bring in the pets. car wax, wd40 will keep the snow from sticking. you have to shovel access

the good news is that crews are hitting the streets hard here in montgomery county. check out what you can see behind me. we have seen a steady stream of trucks getting filled up here at one of the montgomery county salt domes all morning long. what they are doing is going out and pretreating the main and emergency roads before the storm hits. once there is three inches of snow on the ground they will start to send out the plows. now the county says the primary focus is keeping the main roads and emergency roads cleared. once it stops snowing we will see the crews working the smaller street and the neighborhoods. if you live in montgomery county you may not see a plow until saturday evening and when it stops the county says it will take 60 hours to clear the roads they are responsible for. bad news for people trying to drive to super bowl parties this weekend but for road crews it means they will be working continuously now through monday. hunker down. this will be a long one. back to you. >> we will have a party in the newsroom. thank you. >>> virginia has been unde

you can see there's some light snow there, in montgomery county. the snow has picked up in intensity. all of this coming from a conveyor belt of heavy moisture off of the gulf of mexico, streaming across georgia into south carolina and north carolina, all in the form of rain, where you see the greens and yellows, that's moderate to heavy rain. but it changes over to snow, the white zone there in virginia, that is all snow, and it's continuing snowing across all of virginia, in to the district of columbia, now reaching the ground in maryland as well. and it's snowing light to moderately now. we have temperatures that are at or a little bit below freezing across most of virginia. in washington and in maryland, though, where the snow is still falling lightly, it's a little bit above freezing. so it is melting initially. a broad area under a winter storm warning. it includes all of -- just about all of virginia and all of maryland. eastern shore under a blizzard warning. so is the jersey shore. most of pennsylvania, too, under some sort of warning, and
