live from montgomery county richard reeve, abc 7 news. >> thank you. this storm system has really caused a lot of lightning. earlier today thousands of lightning strikes. earlier in reston, this video was shot by our photographer. the lightning strikes, and you probably heard the rumbling. bob, that was the thing i was amazed at earlier looking at the storm system, having the information with the lightening strikes. really incredible stuff. >> believe it or not this storm has quieted down through washington. the wide view, uh -- this is a live picture from northern virginia. the rain is still there, but but there is still lightning near stirling. this is after the worst of the storm has come by. behind it, and a lot of lightning. nothing like the wind gusts earlier when they came through dulles airport. they had a wind gust of 71. there are still severe thunderstorm warnings for people in anne arundel county, eastern parts of charles county st. mary's county. the severe thunderstorm warnings are now down for the washington area for the metropolitan dow

county or most of montgomery county or any of it basically now. it looks like fairfax county, all of you west of i-95 have been cleared from this severe thunderstorm warnings. the heavy stuff has moved east of you. just flash flood warning is in effect for frederick county until 1:15 a.m. as we look at the rainfall amounts, all the concentration of the heaviest rainfall has been up there to the north and northwest. the rainfall amounts haven't been that great, but we definitely have seen the heaviest up into frederick county where they may have received as much as 3.5 inches up around frederick. one storm was incredibly heavy. in the district i little more than 1/2-inch. out towards warrenton where we talked to will earlier, in some places north of warrenton they got an inch to 1 1/2 inches. that's doppler estimated. it's not perfect but we found it does

the district, fairfax county and montgomery county have seen the worst of the storm. next it is prince george's county and southern maryland. if you live in southern maryland you are under the gun for the severe storms to move through and the strongest winds. buoy you are seeing the strongest winds. if you live in glen burnie and annapolis expect this to come through in the next 10 to 30 minutes. down south along 301, brandy wine, la plata you are seeing the winds now. the winds precede the rain. it may not be raining and the winds will gust all of a sudden. and it could be 60 to 80 miles an hour. we have seen numerous reports of trees down across the area. downtown frederick county, maryland a lot of road closures there and numerous trees down in loudoun county, montgomery county and fairfax county. if you live in st. mariy's county expect your power to go out. 100,000 people are now without power. i expect that to climb and maybe double through the rest of the night tonight. that is a huge scenario playing out here. not only do we have the strong storms but behind t

montgomery county, eastern montgomery county and as i mention right down i-95 continuing to see it there. down around the fredericksburg area. there's the rain coming through the district and this is northwest washington. i want to show you what's going on here. you can see the textured clouds. the textured clouds and no rain out of those, maybe light showers but once it becomes the same color, the same color gray and you lose the texture, that's where all of your rain is. you can see that storm moving at you. those lower clouds and lower textured clouds coming at you and then that sheet you see all one color, that's where you have the very heavy rain and exactly what you're seeing right now. you do not want to drive right now. if you have plans so many people asking me, should we go to the game tonight and my kid's soccer game, it's a friday night. no. simply, don't go out tonight. if you can stay indoors and order some tivo or pay per view action. going to be a tough night. if you are able to get outside for just a second and secure some of those power lines or secure some of those pie
