montgomery county schools are also starting today. and the biggest district in maryland is a little bigger this year. news4's kristin wright is live at walt whitman high school with more for us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. that's right. a record number of students in montgomery county, more than 156,000. as you said, eun, making it the largest school district in maryland. significant changes this year, one of them being the school start times. this is a big debate over the last several years. the idea that parents who wanted this wanted high school students to get more sleep. so the school board voted to make these changes in february and here they are. so high school students will start 20 minutes later this school year with school starting at about 7:45. middle school students also shifting their schedule, 20 minutes with most of them starting at 8:15. elementary school students in montgomery county will start at 9:00 or 9:25. depending on the school. that's about a ten minute shift. now, also 800 new teacher, new educators in the school district this year
