this happened in the southern suburb of montrouge. the bbc's damian grammaticus went there he has more for us. >> reporter: this is the scene here in the south of paris, jut south of the center. you can see where the street is blocked off there. what we have is the police line where they have cordoned off that area. it's just a little bit up there where that shooting happened this morning. what an eyewitness said was that there was a man dressed in black who came out, we think out of a car, ran up to a police officer, shot them at point-blank range. one other person was shot, too. a street cleaner or something like that who was here at the scene. that man then fled. paramedics who came here were unable to save the life of the police officer, who was a policewoman, and as far as we know according to the interior minister, that suspect is still at large. but here we've seen there's been armed police units in this area and of course still police activity further up the street there, too. >> damian grammaticas there in montrouge. we can j

in a separate understand two police officers have been shot in montrouge. but it is not clear if the event is linked to the incident from yesterday. right now, you're looking at a live shot from the scene. the french interior minister left the meeting to head to the site of the incident. he said the shooter is on the run contradicting earlier reports that the suspect was arrested. let's get out to hadley gamble who joins us live from paris with the latest. hadley get us up to speed. >> hey, seema, you're quite right. there are still conflicting reports about exactly what is happening. there are reports that one of the police officers has been killed. we understand understand that one possibly two heavily armed suspects are on the loose in this ipd. as you've seen there is no evidence that this attack is linked to the brutal murders we saw yesterday at the offices of charlie hedbo. the manhunt for suspects in that attack is still ongoing. we know two procedures suspected in these attacks. reuters have reported these guys have links to terrorist organizations

the process of that they have now established a link with a man that carried out the shooting in montrouge yesterday. when i left the paris bureau this morning, they were saying that they'd identified that man. they pulled in two suspects from that area. 52-year-old man and another. and they had identified this gunman. but then bernard cazeneuve, when he came on to the steps, he said that he was still at large. so you can imagine that while all the focus is in dammartin-en-goele here in the capital, things are still very tense indeed. yesterday they closed off all access points into the city. real pandemonium as they thought the brothers were coming back here. as i've driven around the city what i've noticed s there are a lot of police vans in strategic positions. they're slowing down the traffic. trying to slow things down in the city. if there was an incident then very quickly they'd be able to seal off a particular part of the city. so it's not just in dammartin. it is here in paris as well where the situation continues. and think ahead to sunday. thousands of people coming here to pari

>> reporter: this is where amedy coulibaly and hayat boumeddiene are living ten-minute drive to montrouge where he is believed to have gunned down the police officer and 20 minutes from the kosher supermarket. police are still inside the apartment investigating. their names are clearly printed on their mailbox and armed police still stake out the couple's apartment. photos of boumeddiene in 2010 quickly surfaced showing her armed with a crossbow. she and her boyfriend met with a top al qaeda recruiter but now as the investigation widens it appears boumeddiene was not even in france at the time of the shooting. turkish officials say she arrived january 2nd is in istanbul most likely destined for syria. french security forces agree and that's not the first dead end. initially police named three suspects in the "charlie hebdo" attack including an 18-year-old named hamyd mourad but friends insisted he was in innocent. in school at the time of the attack more than 100 miles away. an alibi police later confirmed after mourad voluntarily dpurned himself in. saturday he was released. in the rush

a traffic accident took place between two vehicles in montrouge. the police intervened around 7:20 a.m. at 8:00 the police intervened at the scene of the accident having heard gunshots being fired and there were some injuries. a 9-millimeter caliber weapon was found on the road and the first testimonies appeared about a man who was armed with a clashnikov rifle. there was a victim, a police officer and someone else who was not wounded. these were the testimonies that were gathered and appears to have shot and attacked and wounded a jean dam. the perpetrator of these facts then attacked the driver for escapeing and was then discovered near the station. these are the facts, bearing in mind everything that happened and the anti-terrorist actions of the public prosecutor's office of paris. the perpetrator was described as someone dressed in dark clothes with a clashnikov and carrying an arm. the witness who saw the perpetrator from close by managed to help draw a descriptive picture of the criminal was then seen near the scene of the crime and then sim
