what chris moody just reported about the last election is the republicans built a dead drop online.ook at this. republicans and outside groups used anonymous twitter accounts to share internal polling data ahead of the midterms. the profiles were publicly available but meaningless without knowledge of how to find them and decode the information. look at one of these tweets. this is the tweet. fl-44-42/44-35/42-49 and then what appears to be a date, 10/22/14 and then the number 26. that's a coded tweet posted october 25th. if i'm right about that last part being a tweet, that would be polling data they are posting from the 22nd of october. my guess is the first two are the state, florida and the last two numbers are the congressional districts where those are from. districts 2 through 6. my guess is those are the internal polling numbers for each of those districts taken on that date. the accounts cnn renewed were active ahead of this month's election. they were live until november 3rd and then deleted minutes after cnn contacted the national republican committee with questions. this

kate moody reports. >> more than seven months after the ferry sank, the tragedy is still raw. the district court has been assigning blame for the accident which killed over 300 people mostly teenagers, on a school trip. officials say the crew members were negligent and the ferry had an overloaded cargo hold and storage facilities. they were accused of improperly altering the vessel to take on more cargo and passengers. 15 crew members have been given jail time, with the captain receiving a 36-year sentence. on thursday, the court sentenced the president of the company to 10 years in jail for criminal negligence. last month, he apologized to the victims' families, but said he was merely an employee, and that responsibility was his boss' who was found dead in june. there has been public outrage at the ferry operator and the government's unsuccessful rescue operation. they have launched a new safety ministry to improve the response to future disasters. >> taking a lesson from a painful accident, the safety ministry should greatly step up anti-disaster capabilities. the ministry s

kate moody is here to walks through today's business news. top story, we've got some european eurozone, rather economic data coming in. >> the key thing to note is we're talking about growth. it is modest growth, but it's growth, not contraction. the skirting the threat of recession with growth for the third quarter coming in at 0.2%. now those figures were pushed in part by a return to growth here in france, a better than expected 0.3% boost being recorded here. now germany, the so called power house of the european economy also returned to growth after contracting last quarter. but it's at a feeble pace of .1% so still some worrying signs about what that could mean for europe and the global economy as a whole. for more on that we're joined by the professor of the london school of economics. thanks so much for speaking to us. what's your take on these overall figures. is this good or bad news for the eurozone? >> i think it's very gentle good news. you can regard it as positive stagnation rather than negative stagnation. the great difficulty

joining us now, david staples at moody's. david, redirecting the focus towards china with regards to energy and gas bills, that's one thing. but what about getting finance from asian banks? can they fill the gap that is left behind by the sanctions and the break between european banks, russian banks? >> that's a very good question. i think at this stage, many of the deals being signed with china, some of them have come with investment, prepayment contracts, the announcement of a sale of an interest in one of rosneft's holdings. some of the deals being announced provide commitments and funding for infrastructure. whether the asian banks more broadly will step in is still an open question. the chinese government is so far showing a willingness to provide fund to go russia to support the longer term infrastructure needs to go along with these gaps. >> and overall, though, is china rubbing its hands at the threat of further actionses coming into russia? >> well, i would hate to use the term rubbing its hands. but china has been t

moody could be the first latino congressman from virginia and mia love could become the first republicanlack woman and the first haitian american member of congress. i want to go to you first on this. the numbers, we talked about diversity for both parties. but the numbers still looking like an edge for democrats, even though latino voters have backed off a little bit. how important is diversity right now for the g.o.p.? >> it's a big deal and that's one of the reasons you've seen some of the republican moments in recent weeks being by african-americans or hispanics or women. they want to put the faces up front. senator tim scott is likely not facing any challenge today in south carolina and he is a big representative. if mia love wins in utah, she will be the only republican african-american in the house. not only the first african-american woman but also since scott has left to be a senator, she would be the only african-american republican. >> just to point out the fast fact, women of color make up nearly 20% of the united states population as we know but they constitute only about 4

moody's has a new analysis of young americans and wh they are saving, and the reality is not a whole, and that could have some long-term implications on the economy. those under 35 are actually saving negative 3%, and -- 2%, and as you look at people older and older, they start saving more. this is significant. what could it mean in the long term? >> it mean that is the lifestyle that these people lead under the age of 35 as they get older will be wildly different than what we have grown accustomed to. this impacts -- by the way, the savings rate for this group and all groups actually went up and was pretty stellar after, during the recession and after the recession. but it means that they're going to have to postpone starting families and buying homes and how long do you have to would wk before you can rire. one of the huge issues is, well, the job market's been weak since the recession, wage growth has been stag in and about -- stagnant, and this group of individuals under 35, they have massive amounts of student debt, a great deal more than, say, 20 years ago in the same age group

morgan stanley at 1.7 and moody's at 1.2. >> we went from a feast to a little bit of a famine in the manufacturing sector. maybe it's not that bad but tell us about it, phil. >>> well, this is data coming to us from a company that tracks business. when you go back through the recession, right after the recession, a big investment in new equipment and machinery came down a bit in 2012. a bit of a dip last year. only up 1.87% this year. well, for the third quarter, they said small manufacturing will be up just 2%. that's where the data is for the third quarter. in fact, nine out of ten sectors actually saw a decrease in spending. and the owners, they are increasingly cautious about future growth. >> we are not seeing a contraction in the data. there's still some growth here barely replacing all the tools and gears and everything else worn down over the last several years. >> bottom line is this, tyler, bill stanley's been tracking this data for a number of years. he increasingly is hearing from small manufacturers that they are just doing enough to make their investments work for their
